A Winnfield man is facing multiple charges following his arrest on December 1.

Jeremy Vines, 24, faces a traffic violation, possession of an illegal weapon and illegal carrying of a weapon.

On Tuesday, the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office received several complaints that a vehicle was speeding and running other vehicles off the road.

The vehicle was eventually pulled over near the intersection of South Drive and Woodard Drive by agents with the Natchitoches MultiJurisdictional Drug Task Force.

Winn man sentenced to prison

United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced that Joe Louis Anderson, 53, of Winnfield, Louisiana was sentenced in federal court for stealing firearms from a local store.

United States District Judge Dee D. Drell sentenced Anderson to 42 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for theft of firearms from a federal firearms dealer. Anderson was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $5,000.

Evidence introduced in court revealed that during the early morning hours of July 25, 2019, Anderson unlawfully entered the Governor’s Affair store and stole five firearms from the firearm display case. The store had surveillance video of Anderson stealing the firearms and leaving the store with them.

The Christmas tree lot is located in the empty lot across the street from the post office.

The Lot will be open Monday - Thursday 4-7 p.m. and Friday Saturday -7 p.m.

Night Hunting and Theft Leads to Multiple Violations for Two Winn Men

Drew Purvis, one of the men who was arrested on Nov. 25 by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents for multiple alleged crimes

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two Winn Parish men for alleged multiple deer hunting violations and theft charges in Winn Parish on Nov. 25. Agents also cited three other subjects in connection with this case.

Agents cited Drew L. Purvis, 28, of Winnfield, and Stephen C. Young, 29, of Atlanta, for taking deer during Illegal hours, taking over the daily limit of deer, hunting from a moving vehicle, shooting a firearm from a public road, hunting on DMAP land without permission, violating deer tagging regulations, violating outlaw quadruped night hunting regulations, simple criminal damage to property, and theft. Purvis was also cited for hunting without basic and big game hunting licenses, open container, driving under suspension and failing to use a turn signal.

Agents also cited Sierra E. Fredericks, 19, of Winnfield, and Jeremy A. Mercer, 23, of Winnfield, for possession of stolen property. was gally harvested deer.

WPSB Declares State of Emergency

WPSB Declares State of Emergency

The Winn Parish School board declared a state of emergency to expedite the awarding of contracts to fix the damages from Hurricane Laura, like the tree falling through the roof as shown above.

The Winn Parish School Board met for a Special Board Meeting Monday, November 30, 2020 where Steve Bartlett recommended the WPSB declare a state of emergency until Jan. 4, 2021.

According to Bartlett, the WPSB’s auditor recommended the emergency to Bartlett to expedite the awarding of contracts above $250,000 to contractors for roof replacements due to damage from Hurricane Laura including a tree that fell through the roof of the school.

The board unanimously the motion.

Winn Parish man arrested on drug charges in Natchitoches Parish

Fate Bush, of Winn Parish, who was arrested in Natchitoches Parsh

An alleged theft call on Tuesday, Nov. 24, led to the arrest of a Winn Parish man on drug charges according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

While deputies were speaking with the complainant, he alleged that a person identified as Fate Bush went to his residence stole a small amount of cash then fled in a green truck, where a BOLO (Be on the Look Out) was issued.

Shortly thereafter, deputies stopped a green 1999 Ford Ranger operated by Bush near the intersections of Lake and Walters Street in Campti.
