The Kiwanis club’s 2nd annual Pancake Supper will be held Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Presbyterian Church. Pancakes will be served from 5 PM to 7 PM. The menu will include pancakes and sausage. You can eat in or take out. Milk and juice will be available for those who eat in. Tickets are available now from any Kiwanian for $6. The money from this pancake supper fundraiser goes to the Kiwanis International ELIMINATE project, which is eliminating Maternal NeoNatal Tetanus from 3rd world countries.
Couple to Wed Aug. 22 Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Austin are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Maria Faith Austin to Levi Jeffery Davidson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Davidson. The bride is a 2013 graduate of Winnfield Senior High School and is attending Louisiana Tech University majoring in Education.
Rotarian John Glynn Jackson invited WSHS head softball coach Lyn Bankston to speak at the July 22 meeting of the Rotary Club of Winnfield. Coach Bankstonand his staff guided the Lady Tigers to the championship game during this past season. On the coaching staff is Hannah Howell who has beenwith the team for the past two seasons after completing four years at Division 1 BYU where she excelled as a pitcher. Also on the staff is Randy Brewton who coaches the outfield. Coach Bankston then introduced three of his players. Senior Dazy Turner played center field and was an Al lDistrict center fielder. Junior Anna Beth Johnson pitched in every game in the state tournament. She received All District, All State and All Cenla honors. Junior Kasey James played short stop and received All District, All Stateand All Cenla honors.

Long Technical College, invited Chancellor Jimmy Saw tele of the Central LouisianaTechnical CommunityCollege System, to speak at the July 15 meeting of theRotary Club of Winnfield. Sawtele suggested that out-sourcing of jobs has caused anerosion of the middle classover recent decades but recenttrends are seeing major investments in manufacturing facilities back in this region.

Shannan Chevallier,Nutrition Educator for theLSU Ag Center taught thekids how to eat according tothe “My Plate.” They weretaught to make half of theirdaily intake of foods fromfruits and vegetables, fol-lowed by grains and protein,and topped off with dairy.
Winnfield Rotarians came away from their June 24 meeting with a better view of regional abortion and pro-life issues when speakers from Louisiana Right to Life gave a presentation. Associate Director and Director of Louisiana Right to
Life Center for Medical Ethics Ryan Verret explained that the organization is trying to find positive ways to protect the
right to life since the watershed 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade opened the door to abortion on demand in America.
Kisatchie Quilt Guild held their monthly meeting at the First Assembly of God Church, Winnfield, LA on June 18, 2015. Before the regular meeting started the members had their annual Salad Luncheon with Carolyn Bramlett giving the opening prayer. Many salad dishes were enjoyed by the members in attendance.
