Mayor Speaks at Rotary Club Meeting

Rotary met for their weekly meeting Wednesday May 30th, 2018, with an honorary guest Mayor Kiah Beville. He is a member of the Rotarians here in Winnfield, and has served as Mayor for the past four years. He spoke on many things he has accomplished in his term. First, he mentioned the new electric sub station for Winnfield. He talked about the Recreation Dept. receiving a grant of $300,000 for repairs and renovations to the gym, equipment, batting cages, and playgrounds at the local parks.

Honesty and Integrity Awards Presented by Masonic Lodge of Winnfield

The Masonic Lodge and Eastern Stars of Winnfield honored Winn Parish junior students with the Honesty and Integrity Awards for this year. The students and families enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by the members of the Lodge.

 

Afterwards, the Masons presented a special program and then each student was recognized and presented with a beautiful framed certificate and a key that represents integrity. The juniors from WSHS that received the Honesty and Integrity Awards were, front row from left: Callie Spangler and Kaylee Bombar; back row from left: Edward Teal, Matthew Harrell and Tyler. Not pictured was Josh Snelling. Congratulations to each of you.

The Pilot International Club of Winnfield recently celebrated their 72nd officers’ installation as a vital part of community service to Winn Parish

The Pilot International Club of Winnfield recently celebrated their 72nd officers’ installation as a vital part of community service to Winn Parish. The club’s main emphasis is brain safety but includes training high schoolers in civic activities for those in need as well as serving oft-neglected caregivers.

Winn Community Health Center Holds Recent Caring Friends Luncheon

There was a great turnout for the 2nd Caring Friends Luncheon hosted by the Winn Community Health Center. This outreach program is for the patients who are apart of the Chronic Care Management Program. This opportunity for patients with chronic illnesses, will be hosted every three months.

A Patient Care Coordination Team was put in to place, to improve the overall clinical care and for the management of chronic disease conditions. This team offers coaching telephone calls for patients with a chronic illness. These luncheons are a chance to meet face to face with the voices that are behind phone helping patients along their journey. They also offer handouts for patient’s information purposes and special speakers.

City Council Meeting

The City Council held their monthly meeting on May 8th, 2018. All City Council members were present at this meeting. After the invocation and pledge, there was an audience comment on the interest in activities for school age children for the summer. Some of the old business discussed was the water problems, which were held up on being fixed due to audit problems, but is currently back on track with fixing these specific water problems.

There were many new action items on the list for this meeting, which include: adding a max speed limit of 15mph on Pineville St., putting a four way stop sign at Pineville/Maple St. A motion was carried to move Elaine Hawkins, dispatcher, from provisional to regular employment.

Legacy Hospice held a Volunteer Luncheon on Thursday. Pictured left to right is Carrie Anderson, Community Educator; Mrs. Mae Perry, Volunteer; Cristy Carter, Volunteer Coordinator; Mrs. Leta Brown, Volunteer; Sally McLaren, Patient Care Coordinator; and Brittney Whittington, Social Worker. Our volunteers play a vital role in improving the quality of life of our patients by reading devotionals, visiting, phone calls, singing and many other ways. Club 13 Holds April Meeting

On April 9th, Club 13 met at the home of Judy Davis, our presidents.

The speaker at our meeting was Carolyn Lang, who told us about her work with 4H and 4H University. Carolyn joined 4H when she was in school and continues to work with 4H in Atlanta school and throughout the parish. We learned that 4H is not just a club but also a great opportunity for students to work with different projects such as science, cooking, gardening and clothing.
