Winnfield Finishes First Round Playoffs with Loss

Coach Andy Pyles, his coaching staff and the WSHS Tigers took a trip to Longville, Louisiana this past Friday night with hopes of bringing home a post-season win, but the South Beauregard Knights just gave them a long ride home. This is the first season since 2007 that our Tigers haven’t gone past the first round of playoffs, and after 9 years of extended seasons, they had no reason to believe this year would be any different. Unfortunately, the Knights held the Tigers to only one touchdown, while they managed to put 36 points on the board. Coach Pyles said the team came out strong and played really hard in the first half, but that they simply made too many mistakes in the second half. Mental mistakes seem to have plagued the team all season. He added that the fact that “so many guys were out with injuries really hurt us. Some of the guys were able to play, but weren’t 100% and it showed.”
