Winnfield Senior High School Baseball Season WrapUp

The Winnfield Tigers ended the 2015 baseball season in Denham Springs last Friday night against the #1 seed Doyle Tigers. The Tigers valiant effort fell short after Doyle put up 4 runs in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th to prevail 7 0. Senior Payton Kepper picked up the loss, giving up 7 runs over 6 innings while striking out 3. Winnfield picked up 4 hits off of the tough pitching staff of Doyle, with sophomores Daulton Clark and Chandler Dantzler, junior Kreston Phelps and Payton Kepper each collecting a hit.

Tigers finish season in first round of playoffs

Your Winnfield Tigers havecompleted their 2015 seasonafter a first round playoff lossto the number one seed DoyleTigers in Denham Springs lastFriday night. The Tigers ofLivingston Parish only scoredin two innings, but were ableto pitch around severalWinnfield runners to securethe 7 to 0 victory. The Tigersfinished the season with a 9-13 record and made the 2Aplayoffs for the third straightyear.

Lady Tigers named2A State runnerups

The Winnfield Senior HighSchool Lady Tigers made thethree-hour trek to Sulphur,Louisiana last Friday to makea run at the Fastpitch 56 StateTournament. The #11 ranked Tigersfaced #3 St. Thomas Aquinasin the quarterfinals on Friday,which was a breakout day forpitcher Anna Beth Johnson.

Gravel budget for 2015 spent, says Jury

The upcoming May 2 road tax election was the major topic of discussion at the April 20 meeting of the Winn Parish Police Jury. Prior to the start of the regular meeting, two specialcalled meetings were held at 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. The 4:30 p.m. meeting was designated for comments from the public concerning the road tax proposition.

Cougars advance to state tournament

The Calvin Lady Cougars will play Starks at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA FastPitch 56 at Frasch Park in Sulphur, LA. The Quarter Final Softball game will be played on Field #19.

Lady Tigers qualify for state tournament

The WSHS Lady Tiger Softball team qualified for the Fastpitch 56 State Softball Tournament in Sulphur this weekend where the eight top teams in each division will gather to decide the State Champion. The Lady Tigers have traveled to Sulphur eight out of the last 11 years to the top eight tournament. “That’s a tribute to our program, our school and our community when our kids can compete for a championship year in year out. It’s just a mindset that has been developed over the years and these kids just expect to be there and they expect to succeed,” says Coach Lyn Bankston.

WSHS Tigers Begin District Play, will host Oak Grove this week

After completing the majority of their non-district slate, your Winnfield Tigers have begun the district portion of their schedule. The tigers currently sit at 6-10 on the year after having faced some stiff competition in district play.
