Elinor Anne Love Derr

Elinor Anne Love Derr passed away August 28, 2020 at Autumn Leaves Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Winfield, Louisiana, following a brief illness.

Anne Derr was born in Minden, Louisiana on July 24, 1925. Her parents were William Durward Love and Hazel Riser Love.

Anne attended school in Winnfield, Louisiana grades 1 - 6. After the death of her mother, she moved with her father to Kilgore, Texas. She graduated from Kilgore High School in 1942. She attended Kilgore Junior College and was a Kilgore Rangerette. She graduated from Kilgore Junior College in 1944.

After college graduation, Anne was employed as Assistant Clerk for the Gregg County Draft Board during WWII. While working for the Draft Board, she met the love of her life, John Chester Derr. Anne and Chester were married in Kilgore, Texas on August 24, 1946.

Anne and Chester eventually returned to Winnfield, Louisiana where Chester was employed as the Advertising Manager for the Winn Parish Enterprise. After the Enterprise was sold, Anne joined Chester in operating the commercial printing business known as “The Print Shop.”

Anne and Chester had four children: Jacque Durward Derr (Laure); John Andre Derr (Susan); Loel Alan Derr; and Elinor Lynn Derr Fordham (Dennis).

Anne was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Riser Love, her father, William Durward Love, her grandparents, S. A. Love and Ida Jane Love, her grandparents, Henry Clay Riser and Ethleen Riser, her stepmother, Mary Florey Love, and her husband, John Chester Derr.

Anne Derr was survived by her four children, and eight grandchildren: Jean Anne Derr Bushong; Jamie Lynn Derr Gonzales; Jacque Durward Derr, Jr.; Philip Fordham; Jennifer Fordham Blanco; Carole Fordham; Rachel Fordham; and Nigel Derr.

She also is survived by seven great grandchildren: Cole Derr; Sean Derr; Lainey Derr; Cooper Derr; Mia Gonzales; Laura Bushong; and Justito Blanco.

Also surviving Anne are her stepbrother, Jack Donald Florence of Kilgore, Texas; and her sister-in-law, Alice Derr of Houston, Texas.

Anne was a member of First Baptist Church, Winnfield, Louisiana where she was assistant teacher for the Lamplighters Sunday School Class.

She held the prestigious honor of being the first female foreman of a Grand Jury in Winn Parish, Louisiana.

Elinor Anne Love Derr left her mark and will be remembered dearly by her family. She finally got her wish - She is home again.

A special thank you goes out to Dr. Mark Shelton and Jimmy Dale Zimmerman and Matt Walton along with all the nurses and caregivers who took such wonderful care of Mrs. Derr during her stay at Autumn Leaves.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield. Visitation was from 9:00AM until time of services. Burial was held at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield, Louisiana.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Jacque Derr, Jr.; Philip Fordham; Nigel Derr; Bart Stewart; Sheriff Cranford Jordan; and Dr. Paul Larson. Honorary pallbearer was Bobby Derr of Houston, Texas.
