Shawn Eugene Baker

Mr. Shawn Eugene Baker, 65 of San Fransisco, CA passed away May 25, 2015 while on vacation in Bangkok, Thailand. Born in Monticello, Indiana on November 30, 1949, he was a graduate of Mt. Prospect High School in Illinois and The University of Wisconsin. Mr. Baker was the owner of Zeke’s Sports Bar and Grill in San Francisco and loved playing golf and enjoyed watching all sports in addition to traveling and spending time with close friends. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his father, James Baker, grandmother, Virginia Shumake Merrill, grandfather, Fred L. Shumake, and aunt, Eugenia Thornton. Survivors include his mother, Theresa Baker, uncle, Freddie Shumake, aunt, Margaret Shumake and numerous cousins. Funeral services were held at 1:00PM on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the Southern Funeral Home chapel. Interment followed in Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Charles Martel Emmons

Mr. Charles Martel Emmons, age 66 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Monday, June 08, 2015. Born Saturday, August 07, 1948 in Alexandria, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his Father, Martel Emmons, and Step-Father, Hezekiah Porter. Mr. Emmons served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Those left to cherish his memory include his Mother, Lois Porter, Winnfield; Brothers, Harold F. Emmons, Thad Porter, Rodney Porter and Marty Emmons; Sister, Linda Poche, and numerous Nieces and Nephews.  Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Myrtis Rai Barksdale Bamburg, age 93 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, June 09, 2015. Born Thursday, September 15, 1921 in Natchitoches, Louisiana, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Winnfield where she was active in the WMU for a number of years. She was also a clerk in Central Supply at Winn Parish Medical Center. Mrs. Bamburg was preceded in death by her Parents, Travis and Zora Barksdale; Husband, Bion H. Bamburg; Brothers, James Barksdale, Mack Barksdale, Aaron Barksdale and one sister Peggy Sheffield. John Luther Jones

John Luther Jones was born on March 16, 1932 to D Jones and Stella Willis Jones. He graduated Winnfield High School in 1950. He began his chosen career of printing at the age of 17 working for the Winn Parish Enterprise and would spend the next 63 years in the business. He joined the Air Force in 1951 to serve during the Korean War. John met his first wife, Ruby McGallaird Jones in Los Angeles and they married April 11, 1956. They moved to Houston in 1959. He began teaching at the Houston Community College as a Printing instructor and taught in Houston Independent School District as a vocational printing teacher for 20 years. He attended the University of Pittsburgh Graphic Art Technical Foundation in 1980. He retired from teaching in 1981 due to vision problems. John had a life-long love of travel and visited England, France, Germany, Holland, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Mexico and New Zealand and almost all of the states. He lived in Louisiana, Arizona, California and Texas.

Mr. Hewey Gene Walker, age 83 of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born June 16, 1932 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, he was retired from Ironworkers Union 710. He proudly served his country in the US Army, member of Scottish Rite and is past Master of Eastern Star Lodge #151. He was preceded in death by  his mother, Eola Puckett Walker Caskey, his father, AmosEdward Walker, sister, Pauline Walker Clubb and brother,  Dewey “Bo” Walker. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years,Frances Hall Walker; daughters, Jean Caskey and husband David, Bossier City, and Elizabeth Skains and husband Mark, Tyler, TX; 3 grandchildren, Justin Caskey and Jessica Vowles and husband Robert of Bossier City and Erin Long and husband Jay Jeffress of Fairfield, TX; 3 great grandchildren, sister, Ruth Gatlin of Pineville, and several nieces and nephews.
