(Mandeville, LA – June 7, 2016) — The Board of Directors of Progressive Acute Care, LLC (“PAC”) the owner of Avoyelles Hospital in Marksville, LA, Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield, LA and Oakdale Community Hospital in Oakdale, LA (together, the “Hospitals”) today announced that it elected to file for protection on May 31, 2016 under Chapter 11 of the U.S.

More Than Just A Library Director, Mary Doherty Retires After 25 Years

After 25 years as the Director of the Winn Parish Library, Mary Doherty is stepping down. In those 25 years, Doherty has seen a lot of changes and made a lot of changes happen. “One of the biggest things was computers,” she said. “When we got our first computer it was huge. We were so proud of it.”

Drawdown on Saline Lake

A drawdown on Saline Lake is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 14, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The purpose of the drawdown is to fight the aquatic plant growth engulfing the lake. The lake, created in 1933 with the building of Allen Dam, has been plagued with heavy aquatic vegetation that causes problems for boaters and fishermen.

Lack Of Answers In Shooting Death Leads To Protest

WINNFIELD, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A lack of answers is leading a mourning family to protest police response to a fatal shooting in Winnfield. Family members say Fernando Jewitt was shot and killed in broad daylight, and the Winnfield Police Department has provided little in the way of justice.

East/West Highway Corridor delegates met here in Winnfield on May 25 with aides from our congressional delegation. Ralph Abrahams, 5th District; Stephanie McKenzie, regional director for Sen. Bill Cassidy, and Quint Carrier, director for Sen. David Vitter. Standing are board members Hiram Copeland (Vidalia), Rick Nowlin (Natchitoches), Sherry Rabb (Vidalia), Murphy McMillan (Jena), president James Scarborough (Natchitoches), H.L. All children and their parents are invited to come and enjoy Robert Neyland’s performance at “Cowboy Bob” that is dynamic, energetic and entertaining at Winn Parish Library Wednesday, June 1 10 a.m. and again at the Sikes Brank at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 2 he will be at the Atlanta Branch at 10 a.m. and the Dodson Branch at 2 p.m. “Cowboy Bob” is bringing his Wild West Round Up to the Winn Parish Summer Reading Program! There will be Cowboy songs, a magic show, a mini Rodeo and balloon animals. A Hooting Hollering good time is guaranteed for all!
