Dr. Bill Gaddis attended the Louisiana Dental Association (LDA) President’s Party/ LSU School of Dentistry Alumni Reception, which was held in conjunction with the 2016 New Orleans Dental Conference and LDA Annual Session. Pictured left to right: Katie Kelley, Coordinator of Information and Publications, LSUSD; Dr. Henry Gremillion, Dean, LSUSD; Dr. Bill Gaddis and Mrs. Jackie Gaddis. Dr. Gaddis, a 1976 graduate of the LSU School of Dentistry (LSUSD), celebrated his fortieth class reunion this past spring. Katie Kelley, Winnfield native, works for the dental school in alumni relations and enjoyed visiting with Dr. and Mrs. Gaddis during the conference in New Orleans.

Jordan, Baxley Officially Take Office

The leaders of two parish offices were officially sworn in for four year terms on Friday, July 1. Sheriff Cranford Jordan officially began his second term with a “High Noon” ceremony at the Central Louisiana Technical College Campus in Winnfield. Jordan had a large turnout and reception for guests, as well as two guest speakers. District Judge Jacque Derr noted that Jordan was the first Winn Parish Sheriff since Reconstruction to run unopposed.

Winnfield Middle School Students Travel to Chicago, New Orleans for Nationals

Winn Correctional Center Downsize To Begin Aug. 1

The Winn Correctional Center has had its share of ups and downs since it opened in March of 1990. The hard work to have the facility built in Winn Parish was the end result of a lobbying effort on behalf of then state Representative Mike Tinnerello and state Senator Don Kelly. It was a bumpy road from the start.

The first ever Dugdemona Summer Fest is this Saturday, July 9 and all are welcome. Dudgemona Fest is a new event put on by the City of Winnfield intended to bring the community together. The day is packed with free events from 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Main Street in Winnfield.

July Utilities Offer New Bills, Payment Options

As the installation of new software comes to a close, Winnfield residents will be able to pay their July bills with a credit or debit card. The City anticipates that by July 15 the new software, a more than $40,000 investment created by Logics Solutions, will be up and running. With the new system, utilities customers will have the option to pay their bill using a credit or debit card either in person, over the phone or with online bill pay.

Out of the Past: March 2, 1977 Rotary Club Observes Its 50th Anniversary

Members of the Winnfield Rotary Club, their wives and guests met at the Pine Ridge Country Club the evening of February 26 to celebrate 1977 as the 50th year the club has been serving the community and its members. Presiding was Rotary President Terry Reeves, who welcomed the guests and expressed appreciation to the ladies of the Country Club auxiliary for the delicious food and the tasteful decorations of the banquet room.

May Unemployment Numbers Show Uptick

Unemployment numbers released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission show an uptick in unemployment in Winn Parish during the month of May 2016. The unemployment rate in Winn spiked to 8.1%, up from the 7 .7% in A pril. That’s down, however, from a year ago, when Winn’s unemployment hit a four-year high at 9.2%.

Winnfield High School Class of 1966 Hosts 50th Reunion

The annual Winnfield High School reunion filled the Winnfield Civic Center with alumni who spanned decades, and a fun trip down memory lane via an old KVCL broadcast from the class of 1966 ensured that everyone would leave with a little piece of romanticized history to take with them. The Class of 1966, celebrating their 50th, gathered several classmates and other alumni to put together a skit with the set-up that the graduating class of 1966 were gathered together for a radio broadcast on KVCL to tell listeners everything that had been accomplished throughout their senior year.

Mrs. Marjorie Price

Mrs. Marjorie Price, on behalf of the Price Family, is shown presenting a check for $5,000 to Sheriff Cranford Jordan to go toward the purchase of a rescue boat for the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Jordan noted that Mrs. Price and her family have always been ready to help the community during disasters and are an asset to the community. “This is a welcome addition to our rescue equipment,” Sheriff Jordan said.
