The Kiwanis club met for its After Hours meeting on Monday, Nov. 18 th at the Chaddy Shack. After a delicious meal of Gumbo and pecan pie for dessert Kim and Chad Vines were introduced as new members of Kiwanis After Hours.

Joe Evans and his daughter Sadee brought the program on Sadee’s scoliosis surgery. In 2018 Joe noticed something about his daughter’s back. They took her to the doctor and he diagnosed her with scoliosis (curvature of the spine). They were told they could do nothing or physical therapy or see an orthopedic doctor. They ended up at the chiropractor. Eventually Sadee began seeing Dr. Fenoli at Hardtner once a week for 6 weeks. There was a check up with a pediatrician but they didn’t like what he said so they had a second opinion with another pediatrician. Then they went to Shriner’s Hospital.

Retired Teachers Gives Thanks

Retired Teachers Gives Thanks

Community is one of the most important strategies to thriving in life. Oftentimes coworkers become family, especially when coworkers are educators and administrators within the school system. Hours spent planning, attending meetings, pouring over curriculum, setting goals, monitoring growth, managing behavior, analyzing data, building relationships – not to mention teaching – all create a pretty tightknit community. When teachers and leaders retire they might be shocked by the abrupt end of constant camaraderie; however, the Winn Parish Retired Teachers Association welcomes those individuals back into communion, and that in itself is one reason to be thankful.

Rotary Club Learns About Impact of Railroads in Winn Parish

Rotary Club Learns About Impact of Railroads in Winn Parish

Donald Boyett, left and Tommy Henderson spoke to Rotarians about trains, both real and model trains, during the club’s Oct. 30 meeting. Rotarian Bob Holeman arranged the program.

Donald Boyett and Tommy Henderson were guest speakers at the October 30 meeting of the Rotary Club of Winnfield where they detailed the history of railroad lines and how trains impacted the growth of Winn Parish through the years.

Younger residents might think that trains played only a small role since there remains only one active track with just an occasional train. However, older citizens recall the hustle and bustle of train service here and recall the varied whistle-blowing patterns of different engineers as their trains approached town.
