The following Press Release was issued on March 6, 2018 from Sheriff Cranford Jordan of the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office.

On February 14, 2018, the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office received information from the Office of Adult Protective Services, a division of the LA Dept of Health, of possible crimes against a person with infirmities in Winn Parish.t investigation and as a result warrants were obtained for Jessica Hester DOB: July 12, 1972, of Winnfield, LA. Hester was employed by the Future Expectations Home Health at the time the alleged offenses occurred.

City Invites Residents To Team Up To Clean Up

This Saturday, the City of Winnfield is hosting Team Up to Clean Up, and invites teams and individuals to participate and help clean up our city.

Clean Team registration will begin at 8:30 and clean up will begin at 9:00. Clean up will take place until noon, when a volunteer lunch will be pro vided at the Farmers Market.

Honorees Inducted Into La. Political Museum Hall Of Fame

 A crowd descended upon the World War II Museum in New Orleans on Saturday, March 10, 2018, to honor a special group of individuals. The U. S. Freedom Pavilion was filled with eight honorees, their families, friends, and guests from across the state.

Since the beginning of the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame, in 1993, each year a group of special individuals who have significantly impacted politics in Louisiana, have been honored. The honorees are celebrated for their unique contributions to the political landscape of Louisiana, and this year was no different.

Inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday were Rev. Avery Alexander, Jay Dardenne, Quentin Dastugue, James Gill, Charles Lancaster, Jr., Newell Normand, Dr. Alton Ochsner, Sr., and Rep. Steve Scalise. Rev. Alexander was born in Terrebonne Parish and raised

Jordan Hill UPC Fishing Tourney Set for March 17

Jordan Hill U.P.C. is calling all fishermen and women, ages 4 and up, to join them on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the St. Maurice Red River Midway Marina.

A Youth Tournament will be held from 1:00–3:00 p.m. for ages 4–12 years, and participating youth need only to bring a pole. Registration for the big tournament begins at 5 a.m., with the tournament beginning at safe daylight and ending at 3:00 p.m.

Entry is $100 per boat with two people max per boat and a five fish limit. The Big BassPot  is $10 per boat, with a 100% payout. An adult must accompany all participants under the age of 18.

Eckerd Connects To Host Golf Tournament, April 13th

Eckerd Connects Wraparound Agencies serves children and teenagers struggling with mental health and addictions issues, who are at risk of being placed outside the home. Services are coordinated with these families based on a national resultsbased model. The program involves families as active partners and uses a teambased approach to coordinate services across multiple systems – including family, youth, community, schools and agencies.

Eckerd Connects serves children and teens in Winn Parish, and will be hosting their first annual golf scramble charity tournament.

Dr. Bill Gaddis speaks to Kiwanis Club

Dr. Bill Gaddis spoke to the Kiwanis Club about his attendance at the LaMissTenn Kiwanis District Mid-Winter convention. The meeting was held in Natchez, Ms. in February. The meeting began on Friday night and continued through the day on Saturday. The awards for the previous year were given out on Friday night. On Saturday there were 20 different workshops available and Kiwanians could attend 3 of those. Dr. Gaddis attended a workshop for secretaries, one called “What Can Kiwanis International Do For You?”, and the President’s workshop. At the President’s workshop individual presidents spoke about the difficulties in the clubs. Most problems revolved around finding new members and keeping the members that you have.

Jacque Daniel Pullig

Jacque Daniel Pullig, 39 of Houston, Texas passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018. A near lifetime resident of Calvin, La, Jacque was born Sunday, July 2, 1978.  He was an avid outdoorsman and Graduate of Calvin High School.  Jacque was a loving father, protective brother and steadfast friend to many in the community he loved.  He honorably served the Army National Guard and was a pipeline operator with Local 406.  Though he worked the pipeline across the U.S., Jacque cherished family above all.   He is preceded in death by great-grandmother, Bertha Carter Weeks; grandmother, Carlene Weeks Williams; aunt Carolyn Sue Linton; and mother, Jeanne Diane Scott. Those left to cherish his memory include:  his son Jacob Pullig and daughter Jaydan Pullig of Calvin; grandfather, Jim Williams, of Calvin; brother Joseph Bonnette of Stewartsville, MO; and sisters, April Scott Gischel of Houston, TX; Ashlee Scott Martin and husband Kenny of Goldonna; Megan Pullig DeBusk; and Jamie Lynn Pullig.

Aver Azzell Taylor

Mrs. Aver Azzell Taylor of Dodson passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Winnfield. She was born August 25, 1919 and lived to be 98 years old. Left to cherish her memory are sons, Garland Taylor, Cordell Taylor and wife Carolyn; daughter, Renelda Taylor; grandchildren, Cecile Taylor, Kimberly Gresham, Timothy Taylor, Sarah Gresham; great grandchildren, Amber Thomas, Selby Gresham, Gavin Gresham, Gabrielle Gresham, Evan Taylor, Marcus Gresham, Sadie Claire Gresham; great-great grandchildren, Asa Walker, Emmett Thomas, Nolan Thomas, Maylee Gresham, Braddock Chandler; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by parents, Thurman William Moffett and Abbie Annielene (Solley) Moffett; husband, Hesley C. Taylor; sisters, Opal Stinson, Anna Belle Shows; brother, Author Lee Moffett. Friends visited with the family 1:00pm until 3:00pm Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Siloam Baptist Church in Gansville.

Jettie Dean Shelton Moore

Mrs. Jettie Dean Shelton Moore, age 84 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018. Mrs. Moore attended Sardis Baptist Church and was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, gardening and gospel singing, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.  Born Wednesday, January 24, 1934 in Atlanta, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Clarence Shelton and Florence Eileen Lee Shelton; husband, L.G. Moore, Jr.; son, Jeff Darwin Moore; siblings, Kay White, Pat Shelton and Richard Shelton. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Ronny Lynn Moore (Sandra), Shirley Moore Myers (Dago), Debbie Moore Perillo (Kenny), Kevin Douglas Moore (Cathy) and Tammy Moore Smith (Kenny); 12 grandchildren, 21 greatgrandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Cele Thompson, Cloy Shelton, Linda Grove, David Shelton, Connie Ferguson and Lawanda Holmes; long-time friend and companion, Darrell Bloodsworth..
