Plate Lunch Fundraiser To Benefit Winn PD Lt. Chuck Curry

Winnfield Police Department Lieutenant Chuck Curry has recently been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and our community has joined together to offer support to Lt. Curry and his family, during this trying time.

After many doctor visits and researching options, Mr. Curry left Winnfield last week to receive treatment at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Atlanta, Georgia. Chuck and Angie will be in Atlanta for approximately six and a half weeks, and will incur some expenses which will not be covered by insurance, such as room and board, meals and gas.

Mayoral Candidate Correction

Last week, the Winn Parish Enterprise published an article regarding the upcoming March 23, 2018 election, in which registration deadlines and candidates names were listed.

In an oversight, one City of Winnfield Mayoral candidate was omitted from the story. It is with great sincerity, we offer an apology to Mr. Manuel Espejel, whose name was inadvertently left out of the article. Mr. Espejel is a candidate for the City of Winnfield Mayor’s Race.

Jordan Hill UPC Fishing Tourney Set for March 17

Jordan Hill U.P.C. is calling all fishermen and women, ages 4 and up, to join them on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the St. Maurice Red River Midway Marina.

A Youth Tournament will be held from 1:00–3:00 p.m. for ages 4–12 years, and participating youth need only to bring a pole. Registration for the big tournament begins at 5 a.m., with the tournament beginning at safe daylight and ending at 3:00 p.m.

The Kindergarten classes at WKS got a treat today when Miss Louisiana , Laryssa Bonacquisti, came to visit , show her “super power” of ventriloquism, and use her “super power” to read them a book with her friend Waddles. The boys and girls loved getting to talk with and meet Miss Louisiana.

Jewel Reeves

Mrs. Jewel Reeves, age 93 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018. Born Monday, May 12, 1924 in Creston, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, John Andy and Valley Butler Stewart; husband, Calvin Reeves; daughter, Judy Reeves; sister, Pearl Stewart; and brothers, Earl, Carl Lee, and J.T. Stewart. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Betty S. Procell; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and brother, Watson Stewart. Graveside services were held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Hawthorn Cemetery, in Ashland, LA with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating. Serving the family as pallbearers were David White, Wayne White, Jack Rushing, Bobby Desadier, Reggie Longino, and Roy Davis. Thomas Levi Williams

Mr. Thomas Levi Williams, age 80 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Born Sunday, August 22, 1937 in Noble, Louisiana, he was retired as owner of Williams Used Car Company. He was a 48 year member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church and a 32nd degree Master Mason of Winnfield Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 F&AM. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Melton Marion Williams and Iner Belle Scott Williams; siblings, Luther Williams, S.L. Williams, Jim Williams, Helen Hutto, Zora Vines and Elvie Weatherly. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Mary Rush Williams; daughter, Melissa Williams Carlin (Marc); grandchildren, Heather Williams Hansen (Michael), Calie Keller and Zackery Lynch; 9 great-grandchildren; sistersin- law, Susan Wood, Connie Reed and Betsy Rush (Charlie); brothers-in-law, Tom Rush (Barbara), Bertis Rush (Sharon), Johnny Rush and Keith Rush (Angela).

Mineola “Missy” Oglesby

Mrs. Mineola “Missy” Oglesby, age 78 of Verda, Louisiana was born Friday, December 22, 1939 in Verda, Louisiana and passed from this life on Monday, February 19, 2018. Missy attended Verda School. After graduation she attended Northwestern State University where she obtained a two year Secretarial Science degree. She worked for United Gas in Shreveport, Lousiana for a while until she married. She was a homemaker and she raised three children. She was preceded in death by her father, James Bailey Johnson, mother, Ruth Johnson, husband, Don Oglesby, great grandchild, Landon Lane McConathy-Parks, and brother, Charles Johnson. Those left to cherish her memory are Don Oglesby, Jr.

Margie Kelley Dobson

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Margie Kelley Dobson was held at 2 pm Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Briarwood Baptist Church in Saline, LA with Bro. Dick DeBusk and Bro. Trey Etheridge officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches. Mrs. Dobson, 84 years of age and a resident of Chestnut, passed away February 16, 2018. She was born on May 22, 1933 to Edwin C. Kelley and Lela Durbin Kelley in Winn Parish, LA. She married Roland Dobson on July 15, 1950 and shared 62 years together until he passed away in 2013. She enjoyed traveling with Roland and visiting new places together. A long-time member of Briarwood Baptist Church, she enjoyed fellowship with her church family. Her greatest treasure on earth was her family. The happiest times were when her family could gather and enjoy a meal she prepared for them.

Dorothy Durbin Caskey

Mrs. Dorothy Durbin Caskey, age 87 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Born Wednesday, July 2, 1930 in Goldonna, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Abner Durbin and Pearl Ruth Durbin; son, David Glen Caskey; brother, Denny Lawrence Durbin; and sisters, Estelle Coile, Aubyn Gill, and Mary Reidheimer. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 72 years, Henry L. Caskey, Jr., Dodson, LA; daughters, Donna Privett (Don), Ball, LA and Cheryl Walters (David), Dry Prong, LA; 7 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and sister, Carrie Humphrey (Jerry), Hosston, LA. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Gloryway Church with Rev. Ronny Taylor and Rev. Donald Privett officiating. Interment followed in Gloryway Cemetery, near Dodson. Serving the family as pallbearers were Timothy Privett, Todd Box, Joshua Box, Daniel Caskey, John Nobles, Chris Allen, and Ray Duck.
