Tiger Cross Country Races At Ruston

In a field of predominately 5A schools, the Tiger cross-country team finished 8th in a field of 14. Senior Tyler Hight ran a career best time of 16:08 over the rolling 3-mile course to lead the Tigers. Tyler finished 6th overall out of 113 runners. Junior Cole DeBusk followed with a season best time of 19:00. Senior Edward Teal was next in 19:42 with senior Kaleb Hemphill close behind in 20:05. Junior Dylan Irby finished in 27:46.

WMS Excels At Rapides Cross Country Meet

The WMS cross country team brought home 12 medals for top 5 finishes at the Rapides Junior Runners meet held at the Ward 9 Recreational Complex in Pineville. This included 3 first and 2 second place finishes.

Chloe James started the morning finishing 2nd in the middle school girls race in a time of 15:27. Lauren Poole followed in 8th at 17:59.

In middle school boys action Kaden Victor placed 17th with a time of 15:51.

Cross Country Races At Pine Prairie

Tyler Hight claimed top honors as the Tiger cross country team placed fifth at the Prairie Run held at Pine Prairie High School. Hight was first in 16:54 while Cole Debusk was 13th in 20:05, Kaleb Hemphill 17th in 21:34, and Edward Teal at 25th in 22:21. Brandon Florence finished with a time of 25:45 while Dylan Irby came in at 30:58 over the 3 mile course.

In the varsity girls race, Grayce McDavid finished 11th with a time of 25:27. This was her first race of the season.

Tiger Cross Country Races at Cedar Creek Invitational

The Winnfield Tiger cross country team competed at the prestigious CedarCreek Invitational this past weekend finishing 12th in a tough field of 20 schools from all classifications. The Tigers were led by senior Tyler Hight who finished 4th overall out of approximately 250 runners.

Former Winn Parish Resident Mark Rudd Inducted Into Martial Arts Hall of Fame

On July 19, 2018 Sensei Mark Rudd (7th degree black belt) of Andalusia Alabama was Inducted into the World Isshinryu Hall of Fame held at the Convention Center in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Mr Rudd was the 113th inductee into the highest honor given within the Isshinryu Karate System since the Isshinryu Hall of Fame (IHOF) began back in 1979.

Grace Caskey Wins 4-H State in Barrel Racing

Grace Caskey, a Winn Parish 4-H member, will be traveling to Perry, Georgia August 4, 2018 to represent Louisiana.

Grace is the daughter of Jeff and Christina Caskey and a student at Calvin High School.

Winnfield Senior High School June Baseball

The Winnfield High School Baseball Team ended up with a record of 8- 3 during the month of June, playing teams form Ruston High School, Jena, Caldwell, Grant, Bunkie, Oak Grove and St. Marys. June Summer Ball is mostly to tune up for next year’s season. The team will have 8 returning starters coming back form this past year’s district championship team, which landed them in the Regional State playoffs in 2018. This next year’s season looks very promising if the boys continue to be dedicated, work hard, play as a team and stay healthy.
