Joy Nell Walker Rogers

Joy Nell Walker Rogers, age 82 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, February 1st, 2018. Mrs. Rogers was born on June 17, 1935 in Memphis, TN and was lovingly adopted into the union of William Dewey Walker and Arvilla Greene Walker. Joy spent the majority of her life in Winnfield, LA and in 1968 married Roland Rogers. Roland and Joy were married for 47 years until his passing in January 2016. Joy was a stay at home mother to her children for many years until 1985, when she was employed by the Winn Parish School Board in Special Education for 20 years until her retirement in 2005. Joy loved helping children and served in a variety of roles throughout the parish school system. Joy enjoyed cooking, walking, traveling, and spending time with her family, friends, children, grandchildren, and her many pets over the years. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and could always be found watching them play on Sundays in the Fall. Joy was also a member of the Winnfield Red Hatters Club. Joy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, and later in her life became a member of the First United Methodist Church and served her lord and savior. Joy is preceded in death by her Father, W.D. Walker, her mother, Arvilla Greene Walker, Brother Jessie T. Walker, and husband Roland Rogers. Survivors include a son, Ralph William Rogers of Winnfield, LA, a daughter, Rolanda Rogers Harvison and husband Emery Harvison of Mesa, Arizona, two grandchildren, Jill Catherine Harvison, and Allen Emery Harvison, also of Mesa, Arizona, one nephew, Kent Rogers of Los Angeles, California, and one niece, Rhonda Rogers Armor of Houston, Texas and several cousins. The family wishes to thank Dr. William C. (Billy) Smith, Dr. Thomas P. Smith, Dr. David C. Osafo, Dr. Navneet Sharma (all) of North Louisiana Medical Center, the ICU staff of Northern Louisiana Medical Center, Dr. Manish Dhawan of Northwestern Louisiana Cancer Center, Dr. Ricky Hendrix of Winnfield, and the staff of Ruston Regional Specialty Hospital for all of their hard work and care for our beloved Joy. Funeral Services were held at the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield.
