Randy Asken

Mr. Randy Asken, age 58 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. Born Monday, October 26, 1959 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents Donald Ray and Margaret Ann Robinson Asken. Randy owned and operated Asken Repair where he worked as a mechanic. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sherry; daughter, Dena Ayala (Micheal), Winnfield, LA; son, Corey Asken (Crystal), Winnfield, LA; sister, Renee Nash (Barnie), Jonesboro, LA; brother, Ricky Asken (Kitty), Pineville, LA; step-children, Joseph Vines, Cassie Parker, and Shauni Lytle Grandchildren, Michael, Maezie, Makena, Kace, Annabeth, Nevaeh, Carson, Bailey, and Tinsley; and great-niece, Rilynn. Randy is also survived by a host of co-workers, friends, and family. Graveside services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Garden Of Memories Cemetery in Jonesboro with Rev. Randy Dark officiating.

Allen Morse

Funeral service for Allen Morse, 86 of St. Joseph were held Friday, May 25, 2018 at 2 PM in First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph with Rev. Johnny Wilkins officiating. Interment followed in Wesley Cemetery near St. Joseph under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 PM at the church. He was born to the union of John Dave and Myrtle Upton Morse on March 2, 1932 in Winnfield and passed from this life Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. Mr. Morse was a member of First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph and a United States Navy Veteran. He married Claudine Stinson on March 23, 1957 in Nashville, TN. He retired from Tensas Parish School Board as a graphic artist and from Tensas Gazette having worked there for nearly 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Mel Morse; two brothers Alton and John Morse; and a sister Cammilla McCartney.

Peggy Jane Brand Bozeman

Mrs. Peggy Jane Brand Bozeman, age 86 of Winnfield, passed away May 23, 2018 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana. Mrs. Bozeman was born on December 11, 1931 in Sikes, Louisiana and a graduate of Sikes High School. She was preceded in death by her parents Louie D. Brand and Onie White Brand, her husband of 55 years, Estes B. Bozeman; sisters, Jimmie Jean Corry and Betty Lou Creel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, the Tremont Homemakers Club, as well as, The Readers Review Club. She was a homemaker and enjoyed leading her children in Brownies and Girl Scouts. She also loved reading, cooking, gardening, collecting and sharing recipes with her friends and family.

William Ellis “Bud” Kirkpatrick

William Ellis “Bud” Kirkpatrick, 82, of Hattiesburg, MS, died May 18, 2018, at his home. Kirkpatrick established the first public relations office at The University of Southern Mississippi in 1972, where he served as director. In 1997, he was named Assistant to the President for University Relations and held this position until his retirement in 2002. Kirkpatrick holds the distinction of being the longest continuous serving employee in the history of the University, with 45 years of continuous service. Kirkpatrick most recently received a Forrest Health Spirit in Action Award, which is presented for an individual’s commitment to the community. Kirkpatrick committed his adult life to promoting the Pine Belt. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Parkway Heights United Methodist Church with burial in Lake Park Cemetery in Laurel. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg and began at 10 a.m.

Floyce Anne Waters Hicks Hand

Mrs. Floyce Anne Waters Hicks Hand, age 61 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Born Sunday, November 4, 1956 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her father, Carl Waters; brother, Jimmy Waters; sister, Eunice Chandler; husband, Jimmy Hicks; and great uncle, Will Tatum. Mrs. Hand was a Licensed Practical Nurse and loved caring for her patients. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, special sister-in-law, and loyal friend. Anne was an avid animal lover and enjoyed fishing. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, David Hand; mother, Marie Tatum Waters; sister, Elaine Atkins (Jlynn); daughters, Sharon Denise Barton Boddie (Chad), Jennifer Marie Barton Speed (Walter); and Amy Renee Barton; step-daughters, Christie Valentine (Michael), Heather Stevens, Donya Stevens; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Thomas Merle Babers

Mr. Thomas Merle Babers, age 70 of Saline, died Saturday, May 12, 2018. Mr. Babers was born in Winnfield to Thomas Coy Babers and Avis (Kelley) Babers. He was a life-long member of Briarwood Baptist Church in Readhimer, La. where he also served as a deacon. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors almost as much as he loved his precious family. Friends visited with the family 5:00pm ~ 8:00pm Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Briarwood Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 10:00am Thursday at the church with Rev. Trey Etheridge and Rev. Dick DeBusk officiating. Interment was in the Briarwood Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Quentis Ates Bruce, 77, of Georgetown, LA, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Rapides Regional Medical Center. She was born on Friday, August 30, 1940 in Urania, LA to the late Arthur Willam Ates, Sr. and Iva Jameson Ates. Mrs. Bruce is preceded in death by her husband, Marion Eugene “Bud” Bruce; one brother, A. W. Ates, Jr.; 2 sisters, Arthur Mae Ates Stamper and Lillie Mae Ates; and one great grandson Isaak John Barnard.

Hardy H. Weeks, 69, of Gilmer, Texas Hardy was born July 20, 1948 in Winnfield, La to Belton and Sally Megison Weeks and passed away May 2, 2018 in Gilmer, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bobbie Jesse Weeks; and sister, Sandra Faye Nelms. Survivors are his sons, Hardy D. Weeks Sr., Shaun Weeks (Crystal), Robert “Bubba” Fuller (Jessica), and Jay Fuller (Brandy); brother, Kenneth Weeks; grandchildren, Ashley Gwin (Jeremy), Hardy “Lane” Weeks, Ronald Weeks, Shaun M. Weeks, Caini Weeks, Dylan Fuller, Randy Fuller, Mary Fuller, Ruby Fuller, Stoney and Jonathan Fuller; 6 great grandchildren; and numerous cousins who he loved dearly. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Southern Funeral Home, with Rev. George Bates officiating. Interment followed at Yankee Springs Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers were Larry Weeks, Carl Weeks, Vernon Weeks, Kendall Nelms, Keith Nelms, and Dylan Fuller.

Mr. James Dudley Phillips, age 79 of Winnfield passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018. He was born November 11, 1938 in Lovelady, TX. Mr. Phillips was predeceased by his parents, Dudley and Rena Phillips; sons, John Phillips and Kenny Phillips; grandchildren, Riley and Reagan Hall; sons-inlaw, Woodie Woods and Tom Winemiller. Survivors include his wife, Carol Hudson Phillips; children, Elizabeth Phillips Woods of Batson, TX, Donna Winemiller of Baytown, TX, Billy Phillips of Tomball, TX and Rodney Phillips of Dayton, TX; step-sons, Tony Lacaze of Dallas, TX and Bo Lacaze of Selma, TX; siblings, Don Phillips, Edna Pounds and husband, Linda Sue Moody and Fay Leech and husband; sisters-in-law, Barbra Austin, Doris Blake, Joyce Holly and Syble Cupp all of Winnfield; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Jimmy R. Guin

Jimmy R. “Jim” Guin, 78 of Shreveport, LA formerly of Winnfield, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 in Bossier City, LA. Born December 19, 1939 in Castor, LA, he was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Frances Guin, wife Peggy Grisham Guin, son John Joseph “Joey” Guin, brother Jackie Guin and son-in-law James Pratt. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a Winn Parish police juror and barber. He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church. Those left to cherish his memory include a son Eric Curtis Guin, daughters Betsy McLaren (Jack) and Brenda Pratt, sisters Theresa Chelette (Waymon) and Margaret Boyler, brothers Joseph Guin (Cathy), Jeryr Guin and Johnn Guin, special friend Jeanette Horne, grandchildren: Christopher and Jeremy McLaren, Ericka Guin, Cathy Jo Tannehill, Chad, Matthew and Amanda Pratt, five great grandchildren and well as several special nieces and nephews. A memorial service and celebration of life for Jim Gin will be scheduled at a later date.
