Earnest James Baxley Sr.

Mr. Earnest James Baxley Sr., age 80 of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. Born Saturday, July 2, 1938, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Winnfield.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Earl and Nellie Baxley; brother, Louis Earl Baxley; and son, Jay Baxley. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Crooks Baxley; daughter Kristy Baxley Avant and husband Terry; granddaughters, Kalyn and Karly Avant and Olivia Baxley; sister, Nell Baxley Stadtlander of Jonesboro as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Earnest was a 1957 graduate of Winnfield High School and a 1964 graduate of Northwestern State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. He was a logger for over 40 years and was the owner and operator of Winn Timber Company. Upon retirement, he was also the trucking manager for Diamond B Construction in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Tammi Lynn Henderson Howell

Tammi Lynn Henderson Howell, 56, passed away on January 24th, 2019 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, after a long battle with cancer. Her funeral services were held at North Hodge Assembly of God on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 3pm. A wake was held at Winnfield Assembly of God on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 5-8pm.

Tammi was born on May 22, 1962 in Malvern, Arkansas to Stan and Sandra Henderson. She married Tim Howell on May 4, 1984. Together, they raised two boys, Drew and Daniel Howell. She remained a dedicated employee of the Bank of Winnfield for 34 years.

Raymond Griffin, Jr.

Mr. Raymond Griffin, Jr., age 79 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Winn Parish Medical Center.

He was born Tuesday, December 19, 1939 in Chopin, Louisiana and was retired from A&P Grocery store as Assistant Manager.

Mr. Griffin was the son of the late Raymond Griffin Sr. and the late Vera Quimby Griffin. He was also preceded in death by four siblings Vernon, Shirley, Audrey, and Jacqueline.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Griffin, his son Eddie Griffin (Trina) of Cypress Texas, daughter Anita Jones (Randy) of Weatherford, Tx., and two grandsons Benjamin and Brian. He also leaves to cherish his memory one sister Janet Tomlinson of Bradenton, Fl. as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 11:30 AM on Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Gary M. Parker officiating.

Paul Wesley Garner

Mr. Paul Wesley Garner, age 61 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019.

Born Monday, June 24, 1957 in Mobile, Alabama, he was an avid fisherman and hunter, was a log truck driver and attended church at Jordan Hill United Pentecostal Church.

Mr. Garner was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Mary Ethel Ward Garner; siblings, Carolyn “Kaka” Bedgood and Robert “Bud” Garner.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 42 years, Judy Womack Garner; children, Daylon Wesley Garner and Sheena Denise Combs (Donnie); grandchildren, Dayton Combs, Dyson Combs, Karlie Garner, Kinley Garner and Leah Garner; siblings, John L. “Johnny” Garner (Evelyn), Janice Hasselle, Emily Gibson (Weylin) and Paula Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews

Mr. Thomas Warren, 91, of Maurice, Louisiana, passed away on January 18, 2019, surrounded by his family members.

The funeral service is being handled by and wase held at Southern Funeral Home on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at 202 E. Lafayette St., Winnfield, Louisiana. Byron White, grandson-in-law of Thomas, of Angleton, Texas, will be officiating. Visitation was held on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, at Southern Funeral Home. Burial followed the funeral at Garden of Memories cemetery in Winnfield.

Mrs. Gwendolyn Jeanette Chelette, age 74 of Dry Prong, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

Her life was a blessing to so many. We are left with memories to treasure. She will be dearly missed, but will live on in our hearts for generations.

Mrs. Chelette was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, of Williana. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grand kids.

Born Friday, June 30, 1944 in Alexandria, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ina Owens Carter and Jack Carter; brother, Shelby Carter, and sister, Linda Carter.

Mr. Alen R. Coolman, Jr. “(Half Pint), age 64 of Montgomery, Louisiana passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019.

Alen was born March 8, 1954 to Alen, Sr. and Cecile Gongre Coolman. He became a jockey at a young age, winning many titles. Alen spent many years driving a log got .

loved hunting. The biggest and most important part of his world were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To say he loved them was an understatement.

Alen was preceded in death by his parents, Alen Coolman, Sr. and Cecile Gongre Coolman; sisters, Carolyn Sue Carter and Katherine Coolman Mount, and granddaughter, Alexis Coolman.

Vera Robertson - Abrams

Mrs. Vera Robertson - Abrams, 81 of Dodson, La. passed away at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Winnfield on Saturday, January 12, 2019.

Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Revs. Ed Smith, Jessie Henderson and Bobby Bates officiating. Interment followed in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Dodson.

Mrs. Robertson - Abrams was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. Previously attended Harmony Grove Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Sikes High School in 1955. Received a B.A. degree in education at NSU and a Masters degree in education from Troy State. She had taught school at Caldwell Parish, Winnfield Middle School and various schools in Georgia. Mrs. Robertson - Abrams was a pastor’s wife for 54 years.

R. T. “Tommy” Cambell

R. T. “Tommy” Cambell, age 57 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019. He was an employee at 6C Fabrication, attended The Family Church of Winnfield and was a graduate of Winnfield Sr. High School in 1980. Mr. Campbell went to LSU on full scholarship where he received a B.A. in Business and Marketing. He played football at LSU from 1980 to 1985.

Born Friday, April 14, 1961 in Freeport, Texas, he was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Thomas Campbell, II; mother, Jennie Miller Campbell; and sister, Suzy Campbell

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Karla Mayes Campbell; daughter, Ashlynn Olivia; sisters, Margie, Brenda Sue, Mary Kay; brother, Jeffrey; and one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
