Billie Ruth Butts Jones

Mrs. Billie Ruth Butts Jones, age 88 of Shreveport, passed away February 9, 2019. Mrs. Jones was born February 25, 1930 in Winnfield and was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her parents, Phillip and Ruth Bevill Butts; husband, William Bryan Jones; children, Phillip Jones, David Jones and Cathy Allen; sister, Marie Jacobs. Survivors include her granddaughter, Kelly Allen; greatgrandson, Danny Smith. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Mrs. Dessie Pyles, age 92 of Jonesboro, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019. She enjoyed church activities, traveling and painting China. She cherished time spent with her siblings. She is survived by her son, Andy Pyles (Kaye) of Winnfield; grandchildren, Dustin of Baton Rouge, Kayla (Dustin) of Ruston, Tyler of Restin, Virginia, Brooke (Paul) of Winnfield, Jourdan (Chase) of Winnfield; brother, Carol Hinton of Sulphur; sister, Carolyn Harvey of Quitman. She is preceded by her husband, Jimmie D. Pyles; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Travis Hinton; sisters, Vonice Coleman, Essie Rasberry.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 24, 2019 in the Chapel of Edmonds Funeral Home, with Reverends Don Avery and Jon Tellifero officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Cemetery near Quitman under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers were Tyler Pyles, Dustin Hemperley, Chandler Harvey, Wes Harvey, Mike Brooks, Ronnie Savage.

Bonner Gordon Etheridge, Jr.

Mr. Bonner Gordon Etheridge, Jr., age 70 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Born Tuesday, July 13, 1948 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was proud of his children and loved them and their families dearly and will be remembered as a talented carpenter. He was a truck driver for various employers over the years and was retired from J.B. Griffin Construction.

Mr. Etheridge served in the US Navy and was retired from the Louisiana National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bonner Gordon Etheridge, Sr.; brother, Kerry Banks Etheridge.

Cassie Faye Booth Holmes

Cassie Faye Booth Holmes, 99, left this earth to be with her Lord on Feb. 9, 2019 in Arlington.

Funeral was held at 1st United Methodist Church in Arlington, Texas on February 16, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.

She was born in Craft, Texas to Thomas Trusvan and Allie Mae Williams Booth in 1919. She was the 7th of 8 children, all deceased. In 1935, she married Oswald Holmes. They had 2 children, both deceased. In 1969, Oswald passed away and in 1976, she married Joe Holmes (brother to Oswald). He passed away in 1995.

She is survived by 4 grandchildren, Mike & Marty Holmes and John and Jamie Green, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 stepdaughter and her husband, Marjorie and Billy Cloy and several nieces, nephews, a number of other close family and a host of friends. Cassie sold Stanley Home Products for 62 years. She was the last living granddaughter of Reverend T.T. Booth, an East Texas Methodist circuit rider.

Clarice M. Garner

Mrs. Clarice M. Garner, age 91 of Natchitoches, passed away February 14, 2019. Mrs. Garner was a cafeteria manager at Atlanta High School before moving to Shreveport in 1977 where she became house mother at NSU school of Nursing. She retired in 1997 and resided in Natchitoches until her death. She was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. She loved to cook, sew, knit, crochet, paint, and play cards. Her biscuits and dumplings were renown. She loved to do those things but her first love was God and family. She loved unconditonally without bounds. To know her was to love her.

Mrs. Garner was the daughter of the late Roy Alvin Thames and the late Ruth Marie Jeter. She was also preceded in death by her husband J. E. Garner, son Roger Del Garner, grandson Cody John Garner, as well as a sister Sue Thames.

Max Crowe

Murry Maxwell Crowe, EdD, 95 of Paris, Arkansas passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 in Paris. He was born in Carrollton, Missouri on March 18, 1923.

Dr. Crowe was a teacher, coach, and administrator in Arkansas and Louisiana schools, both private and public. He graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute which is now Louisiana Tech University with his B.A. degree, the University of Arkansas with his M.A. degree and the University of Mississippi with an EdD degree.

Dr. Crowe was a veteran of World War II, having served as a fire controlman aboard the USS Wasp aircraft carrier. The Wasp is credited with shooting down the last kamikaze of the war. He was a lifelong Southern Baptist serving many years as a Sunday school teacher in several different churches.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Maxwell T. Crowe and Mattie (Jackson) Crowe; his wife, Evelyn (Thompson) Crowe and his granddaughter, Anna Redfern.

Gaynell Kathleen Gresham Wallace

Mrs. Gaynell Kathleen Gresham Wallace, age 101 of Atlanta, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019. Born Monday, December 24, 1917 in Atlanta, Louisiana, she was member of Atlanta Baptist Church and was co-owner of Wallace Service Station of Atlanta.

Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her parents, John Phillip “Pete” and Lillie Dale Lee Gresham; husband, John Ross Wallace; son, Phillip Eugene Wallace; granddaughter, Jo Anne Landry; great-great granddaughters, Kristyn Nicole Hoffpauir and Riley Elizabeth Wallace; son-in-law, Hulen Charles Landry.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Lorraine Wallace Landry; and her six grandchildren and a multitude of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 10, 2019 in Atlanta Cemetery with Rev. Chad James officiating. Interment followd under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Mr. Carl Lee Paul, age 71 of Goldonna, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019.

Born Saturday, April 26, 1947 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, he was a member of the River of Life Church in Goldonna, was retired from Willamette in Campti and was an avid coon and hog hunter.

Mr. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and June Joyner Paul; son, Lane Conley; sister, Wanda Paul.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Dianne Harris Paul; children, Danny Dawson (Kym), Kimberly Brown (Keith) and Dwana Luther (Vance); grandchildren, Cody, Faith, Trey, Savannah, Sylvia, Dylan and Landon; brothers, Tommy Paul (Norma), Lester Paul (Douglas) and Eugene Paul (Sherilyn); 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
