Phyllis Janet Davis McLaren

Mrs. Phyllis Janet Davis McLaren, age 71 of Atlanta, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Born Wednesday, July 18, 1945 in Many, Louisiana, she was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener, loved fishing and cherished her family as well as her three dogs, Coco, Macy and Honey Bunny.

Mrs. McLaren was preceded in death by her Parents, James H. and Marguerite Cloud Davis; Son, James Paul.

Those left to cherish her memory include her Husband, Frank McLaren; Daughters, Fran Dick (Tony), Susan Horne (Clay) and Sally McLaren; Son, Bradley McLaren (Kelly); Sister, Patricia Longo; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Mars Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Dick officiating. Interment followed in Mars Hill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield.

Michael Jeffrey Kelley

Michael Jeffrey Kelley Michael Jeffrey Kelley, a lifelong resident of Calvin, Louisiana, passed away on December 5, 2016 after a short illness. Services were held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in the Southern Funeral Home chapel of Winnfield with Reverend Dick Debusk presiding. Interment followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Calvin. Jeff was born on September 25,1959 to the union of Maxine Barnes Kelley and Marvin Julian Kelley. Following his graduation from Calvin High School, Jeff became a welder by trade. At the age of 18 he became a member of the Pipefitters Union #798. His welding jobs gave him many opportunities to travel throughout the world to many different countries. In 1996 he married the love of his life, Tracy Maggio Kelley. He was a devoted father to their two children, daughter, Makayla Jyssica and son, Manning Gauge. As his children began to grow up and become more involved in school, Jeff decided to stay closer to home.

Hamp Frisby

Hamp Frisby, age 89, passed away November 26, 2016 in the Jackson Parish Hospital. Mr. Frisby was born Janaury 22,1927

Survivors are one daughter, Jane Cassano of Livingston, MT; one son, Neil Hampton Frisby and wife Cindy of Wilseyville, CA; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of friends, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Bricie Frisby.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10a.m. in the chapel of Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro, LA. Interment followed in the Sharon Cemetery, in Sikes, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home, Jonesboro, LA.

Charles Lynnwood Tolar

Mr. Charles Lynnwood Tolar, age 67 of Chatham, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, LA.

Born Thursday, December23, 1948 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. Tolar and Viola Brewster Tolar; sister, Theresa “Bit” Norman; brother, Barry Tolar; granddaughter, Samantha Whatley; and father-in-law, Julanna Robinson.

Lynn was a past logger (skidder operator) for Files Timber Company and Broomfield Timber Company. He attended the Dodson Assembly of God in Dodson, LA. He loved his gospel music and church services. Mr. Tolar loved his family and friends dearly, as well as his church family. He always had a smile on his face and sweet words on his lips for everyone.

Nobie Goff Starks

(John 11:25, KJV) Nobie Goff Starks was born on April 27, 1953 to James and Cleo Goff. She accepted Christ into her life at an early age and served him well until God called her home. Nobie joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age, under the leadership of Rev. B. J. Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Cleo Goff and brother Jimmy Ray Goff. Nobie was united to Edward Starks, Sr. on December 23, 1972, and to this union, two children were born. Nobie leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted husband of 43 years, Edward Earl Starks, Sr., one daughter, Shontay “Nay” Starks and one son, Edward “Pluck” Starks, Jr.

Mrs. Ruth Dean Skains Carpenter, age 87, of Winnfield, LA passed away on Thursday, November17, 2016. Born in Joyce, Louisiana, December 25,1928, Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served as founder and long-time teacher of the Encouragers Sunday School Class, WMU President and member of the choir. She loved to sing, and enjoyed traveling with her friends throughout the country. Especially noted for her baking skills, she spent many hours in her kitchen, preparing food for her family and friends. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband, William H. (Bill) Carpenter; parents, Luke and Lydia Skains; three brothers and two sisters. Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Martha C.

Margaret Lorraine Caskey Anderson

Mrs. Margaret Lorraine Caskey Anderson, age 78 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. Born Sunday, March 20, 1938 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Dodson. She owned and managed, alongside her husband, the Dodson Corner Quick Stop for 30 years. The early years of her life were spent as a homemaker raising her children. She will be remembered as a loving wife, a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Leslie and Fannie Lee Kirkham Caskey; granddaughter, Kaitlin Boyett; siblings, Cecil Caskey, Robert Caskey, Corrine Jordan. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, James T. Anderson; children, Toby Boyett (Alpha), Michael Boyett (Lori), Brian Boyett (Laura) and Tammy Brunson (James); siblings, H.L. Caskey, Jr.
