SPED Supervisor’s Retirement Initiates Change In Leadership

An opening in Winn Parish School Board personnel has caused some shifting in educational leadership positions throughout the parish. Melissa Trammell’s upcoming retirement presented a vacancy in the role of Special Education Supervisor. The WPSB announced during the January meeting that four applicants were interviewing for the position. In the end, Winnfield Primary School Principal Candy Polk was given the position.

Mrs. Polk’s transition provided an opening at Winnfield Primary School, and Winnfield Middle School Assistant Principal Tiffany Martin accepted the position of WPS Principal.

At Winnfield Middle School, the Assistant Principal position will not be filled in the traditional meaning; however, WMS Athletic Director Brian Savell now also wears the hat of Administrative Assistant and will be filling in and carrying out Mrs.

EARL K. LONG GATES ARE NOT GONE!

EARL K. LONG GATES ARE NOT GONE!

Residents of Winn Parish may have noticed a “new” fixture attached to the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame. Now connecting the two museum buildings is the gate that formerly donned the back entrance to the Earl K. Long Memorial Park.

Under previous administration, the City of Winnfield made the decision to have the gates removed and discarded. However, the Executive Director of the museum, Carolyn Phillips, determined that this would not be the end for a piece of Louisiana history.

The Winn Parish Retired Teachers Association visited the Central Louisiana Technical Community College. Turn to page 2 to read about it.

As David Stare’s 80th birthday approached, he began deliberating what would be the best way to celebrate. Two things were certain: David’s two most distinct interests were food and jazz. David decided that, as there is no better place than Louisiana to celebrate food and jazz, his birthday weekend had to be there. That wasn’t the only deciding factor, however, as Louisiana had another tug on David’s heart: family roots.

In September of 2019, David, along with his wife and daughters, got on a plane and headed for the Bayou State, temporarily leaving Dry Creek Vineyard that David founded in Healdsburg, California, 48 years ago. Once his feet were on the ground in “the Boot,” David met up with a couple from Boston: his sister, Mary Wilkinson, and her husband. Unfortunately, their other brother Fred, from Chicago, was unable to join.

School Board Member Arrested… Again

School board member Harry Scott was arrested on Wednesday, January 15, for a charge related to his original arrest. The newest charge was listed as “Public Bribery.” Purportedly, Scott sought to pay someone to convince his wife to drop the charges she had made against him. This time, Scott’s bond was $10,000. He made bond and was released the same day as the arrest.

City Council: Winn Dixie, 84 Water System, New WPD Units, Contract With WPDF

The Winn Parish Enterprise would like to amend the title from the headline for the week of January 15, 2020. The original headline read: “Winnfield City Council: Private Meeting, 2018 Audit Findings.” WPE would like to clarify that the meeting was not private. This adjective was used in an attempt to portray, in an abbreviated form, the nature of the Executive Session. Winnfield City Council meetings are always open to the public.

At the first regular meeting of the Winnfield City Council, the agenda was amended to add, at the end of the meeting, a discussion that needed to be held in Executive Session regarding some potential litigation.
