Building Goodwill at Rotary

Building Goodwill at Rotary

Haley Kent (Dean of Students at Mount Grace Teen Challenge for Women), Reverend Dick Debusk (program speaker), Jessica Arcement (Director), and Jo Anna Savant (Work Detail Supervisor and Finances).

“What can I do more than just serve myself?” Reverend Dick Debusk posed this question to the Rotary Club of Winnfield at their most recent gathering.

In a world where “self-care” takes center stage, this type of countercultural question can be unsettling. Bro. Debusk reminded Rotarians that Jesus tells His followers they will be placed in one of two categories when the nations are judged: either they are among the recipients of eternal life who gave food to the hungry, drink to the thirsty, clothing to the naked, and care to the sick and imprisoned – or they did not.

Welcoming the Holidays at Open House

Welcoming the Holidays at Open House
Welcoming the Holidays at Open House

Winnfield decked the halls with boughs of JOLLY for Open House this year! Local businesses showed up and showed out with their Christmas décor and holiday spirit. Although the evening started out drizzly, the rain eventually subsided, so families were able to drive around and support our local restaurants, shops, and businesses.

The wintry evening truly set the scene for members of the community to remember what makes small towns like Winnfield so magical. Strangers turned into friends as shoppers and shop owners gathered and laughed as they posed for pictures. The Christmas lights lit up the night as neighbors and families bonded over delicious treats and promising giveaways.

(Middle) Sheriff Cranford Jordan honors 94-year-old WWII veteran Roy Stickman. Robertson addresses veterans

This year’s Veterans Day Program, hosted by the Sheriff’s Office, had perhaps the biggest attendance to date! Almost 90 people were in attendance, 64 of which were veterans.

The speaker, Dr. Bill Robertson, delivered a moving speech recapping the intriguing life of World War II veteran Louis Zamperini. After introducing Zamperini’s unlikely start, Robertson discussed the pain, hardships, and inner conflict all soldiers wrestle with. However, he highlighted Zamperini’s startling conversion at one of Billy Graham’s crusades. Robertson concluded his message by reminding the veterans that the ability to extend mercy to others is a gift that has been given to them so that it can be shared.
