Posted 911 addresses can save lives. In an emergency, seconds can make a lifesaving difference. The City of Winnfield would like to encourage all city residents to have a valid 911 address posted on the property. The number shall be displayed in a location visible from the road to which the number is assigned.

Majority of Active Cases in WCC

As of Sunday, May 17, 2020, Sheriff Cranford Jordan stated that Winn Parish had a total of 43 active cases and 44 recovered. Added with the original two deaths Winn Parish suffered early during the outbreak, Winn Parish total cases have reached 89. New light, however, was shed on the primary location of the slow spread as Sheriff Jordan clarified that 29 of the 43 active cases came from Winn Correctional Center.

Caroline Whisonant of Winnfield Senior High School was one of two recognized for outstanding volunteer service during the 25th annual, and firstever virtual, Prudential Spirit of Community Awards national recognition celebration. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), named Caroline Louisiana’s top high school youth volunteer in February.

Shortly before 5:15 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a crash on I-20 just east Choudrant. The crash claimed the life of a man from Tallulah, LA.

Winn Parish Cases Slowly Rise

Arraignment by video: History was made in Winn Parish on Wednesday, May 6. Court commenced by video for the first time in 8th Judicial Court with Judge Derr. Sheriff Jordan shared on social media, “District attorney, public defender, and detention center were connected by video conferencing to handle arraignments. Judge Derr felt this was the best for all parties concerned during the COVID-19 virus.”

As of Monday, May 11, Winn Parish had accumulated 54 total cases: 30 active, 24 recovered, and 2 deaths. These numbers reflect positives from parish residents, nursing homes patients, and correctional facility inmates. According to Sheriff Cranford Jordan, test results are reported according to the home address of the patient.

Winn Parish Library Now Offering Curbside

The Winn Parish Library branches are pleased to announce curbside services effective May 11, 2020 at the Winnfield, Atlanta, Calvin, Dodson, and Sikes locations. Cardholders may resume checking out materials including DVD’s, books, magazines, and books on CD. Patrons must not have lost or damaged item charges on their account to use this service. Materials may be ordered by title, author, or genre. Items will be sanitized then bagged to ensure the safety of all our patrons. Please allow the library staff 24 hours to process your order. When placing an order, please include your name, contact number, and library card number.

Teach The Way You Want To Be Taught

WSHS senior Taylor Womack receives the Winn Parish Retired Teachers scholarship from WPRTA President Tommy Bankston.

Winnfield Senior High School 2020 graduating senior Taylor Womack was proudly presented the Winn Parish Retired Teachers Association scholarship check by President Tommy Bankston for $1,000 in her quest for a career in teaching mathematics. Mr. Bankston, in honor of the WPRTA, granted a personal, additional $1,000 scholarship to Miss Womack.

Winn Parish Kindergarten Registration

Future kindergarten students are encouraged to register for the 2020-2021 school year. Children who are 5 years old on or before September 30, 2020, may register for kindergarten. Birth certificate, immunization record, and social security card are required for enrollment.
