The Gifts Of Laughter and Music: Retired Teachers December Meeting

Christmas came early for the Winn Parish Retired Teachers Association! On December 10, about 50 members gathered in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Bankston to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

After enjoying a delicious meal of holiday treats and warm fellowship, the members of the Retired Teachers organization assembled in the Bankston living room for a Christmas concert presented by three local musicians. John Holland, Minister of Music at First Baptist Church, opened the program by sharing some of his childhood memories about the days when music played a vital role in the education system. He commented that music is a universal language that relates to others, especially during the holiday season. Mr. Holland explained that he likes all styles of music, with jazz being his favorite. He then shared two jazz arrangements with the group, which included “The Christmas Waltz” and “Santa Baby,” made popular by the vocalist Eartha Kitt.
