Article Image Alt Text

At this time of year, as we gather with family and friends and reflect upon the many things we are thankful for, it’s important to remember that there are who will not be celebrating in a warm home, surrounded by family.

On October 17th, a group of volunteers came together at First Presbyterian Church and prepared hamburger lunches for those who were picking up boxes from the Winn Community Food Pantry. The group wasn’t only there to grill and distribute the bagged meals; they were also gathering information on the number of homeless individuals and families in Winnfield and Winn Parish. Yes. We have homeless people, right here in our community.

By Steve Colwell

A 34 year-old Atlanta man who gained early release on November 1 under the state’s controversial “Justice Reinvestment” program is back in jail. His freedom lasted just five days.

Winn Parish Sheriff Cranford Jordan said Rory LaCroix was out less than a week before he was arrested for the burglary of an Atlanta residence. The Sheriff said burglary was the same charge for which he had been incarcerated prior to his release.

The meeting room of the Huey P. Long Campus of CLTCC was filled with men and women of all ages, who were there to be honored for Veterans Day. Local Hero’s Service To Country Not Forgotten

Article Image Alt Text

Recently, a special group of young men from Winnfield Senior High School were recognized for their efforts in honoring a veteran from our parish.

Mr. Thomas Edward Hunter passed away on September 12, 2017, at the age of 93. Mr. Hunter was a World War II veteran who served in Normandy and fought with our troops to liberate Europe from the Nazis. Unfortunately, because Mr. Hunter had no close family, he spent his final years mostly alone, in a nursing home. He outlived all of his siblings and never married or had any children. As a result, he had no one to serve as pallbearers at his funeral.

Article Image Alt Text

The Winn Parish Sheriffs Office welcomed a new officer in September and at only 14 months old, he is showing off his training and earning the respect of others.
