Winn Council on Aging was established to render services to persons in Winn Parish ages 60 and older. Winn Council on Aging is hosting a membership drive for anyone 18 or older. The drive will open January 21, 2025, and will remain open until February 4, 2025. The Annual Membership Meeting will be held February 18, 2025, at 5:30pm at Winn Council on Aging 200 N. Governor Landry has signed a proclamation officially declaring January as Human Trafficking Prevention Month in Louisiana, joining the national observance to bring awareness to the fight against human trafficking. This declaration underscores the state’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals, supporting survivors, and preventing human trafficking in all forms.

In recognition of National Wear Blue Day, also known as Human Trafficking Awareness Day on Sunday, January 11, all Louisianans are encouraged to wear blue to raise awareness about human trafficking prevention. Additionally, the staff of the Governor’s Office will wear blue on Monday, January 12, as part of the ongoing effort to highlight this important issue. On the same day, the Louisiana State Capitol and the Governor’s Mansion will shine in blue as a sign of the state’s dedication to this cause.

Per Winn Parish Ordinance 003 of 2006, a BURN BAN will be implemented for all of Winn Parish effective today at 12:00 NOON.

This burn ban is being issued due to dry conditions, high winds, and mid-range humidity, which create an increased risk for wildfires.

All outside burning is prohibited This burn ban will remain in effect until further notice We appreciate the public’s cooperation in helping keep our community safe.

Parker Retires From Winn Parish Medical Center

WPFD responded to a pasture fire west of Calvin. Upon arrival, FFs deployed a booster line to extinguish the fire. As stated in an earlier post, FFs are standing ready to deploy in the event of an emergency even on Christmas Eve. Dial 911 if one should arise. On another note, the ground in our parish is still very dry. Please avoid burning until it is safer to do so. Thank you!

fee will be added to all card transactions. Cash payments will no longer be accepted for these services.

This new system is being implemented to improve efficiency, accuracy, and overall safety during league operations.

The Winn Parish Police Jury, led by President Frank McLaren, convened for its final meeting of the year on December 15th, approving key infrastructure projects, addressing road maintenance. Jurors also heard an update on the intended use of opioid settlement funds. Road Superintendent Perry Holmes reported a one week setback for road repairs due to maintenance on the Side-boom.

The jury moved forward with new projects, notably approving District Five Representative Kyle Potts’ motion for Project Lum Fox Road and granting President McLaren authority to sign the agreement for the crucial Harrisonburg Rd over Nantaches Creek Bridge Project. Economic development was also a focus, with the Jury approving to enter an agreement with Quantum Engineering Group LLC for a feasibility study for a wood pellet plant. The project would be funded by the Winn Industrial Board.

Joe graduated from Calvin High School in 2014. The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Winnfield.

“I learned early on how to be a leader from playing sports in high school and college,” Joe said. “It was great for learning leadership and has dictated how I treat the people under me.”

Joe joined the Navy eight years ago. Today, Joe serves as an aviation structural mechanic.
