Recreation Department Notice – WYBL Basketball Season

The City of Winnfield announces that beginning with the upcoming WYBL basketball season, all transactions will be card-only. This change applies to: Player registration Concession purchases Door entry/admission Please note that a convenience fee will be added to all card transactions. Cash payments will no longer be accepted for these services.

This new system is being implemented to improve efficiency, accuracy, and overall safety during league operations.

We appreciate the cooperation and support of our families, participants, and community as we transition to this updated process for the upcoming basketball season.

ICE Officer Bit by Suspect During Arrest in Tullos

A man in the United States illegally is facing charges of assaulting law enforcement following his arrest in Tullos, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Authorities say that the man attempted to flee from officers during arrest. He then bit the ICE officer. According to DHS, the man entered the US at an unknown date and time without being paroled by an immigration officer.

WYBL Basketball 2026 Late Registration

The City of Winnfield Recreation Department will conclude registration for it’s annual youth basketball league on Friday, December 19. Registration fee is $40.00. With a $10.00 late starting the week of 15 – 19. Boys and girls ages 4.15 are eligible for this exciting program. Don’t let this deadline pass you by. Sign your child up today. The date for MANDATORY TRYOUTS has been changed to Saturday, December 20 and will be held at the Grove St. gym. The times for each age group will be posted in the Winn Parish Enterprise that week. For more information concerning WYBL Youth Basketball, contact Recreation Director, Anthony Hall at 628-0246, and the City of Winnfield would encourage any support that anyone can give to support the youth of today. Shots Fired Near Winnfield Middle School

Friday, December 12th at 12:09 PM, Winnfield Middle School reported gunshots in the area near the middle school playground. Over 20 shots were heard while approximately 80 students were outside. Within under 45 seconds, all students were safely brought inside the main school building. At that time, both Winnfield Middle School and Winnfield Senior High School were placed on lockdown.

Within four minutes, the Winn Parish Sheriff ’s Office had eight units on scene. Deputies immediately began investigating the origin of the gunfire. During the investigation, deputies confirmed that the shots were fired across Highway 501, approximately half a mile from school property, in the Woodland Ridge area.

Winnfield Christmas Parade Reception
