WSHS SENIORS LEAD THE WAY TO ANOTHER MEMORABLE SEASON

WSHS SENIORS LEAD THE WAY TO ANOTHER MEMORABLE SEASON

Front row, L-R: Coach Jake Parks, Jake Lashley, Eli Lasyone, Johnathon Montgomery, Bryce Maloy, Coach Mike Breaux. Back row, L-R: Joshua Tinnerello, Eli Spangler, Jacycen Williams, Brett Jurek, Daniel Simmons.

The baseball season is just around the corner for area high schools. The Winnfield Senior High School Tigers are looking to keep their winning ways as they return six starters from last year’s 3-2A District Champions and State Quarter Finalists: seniors Bret Jurek, Jake Lashley, Eli Lasyone, Eli Spangler, and Joshua Tinnerello, along with sophomore Hunter Tucker.

Graduated from the twotime district championship team are Justin Lawson, Edward Teal, and Jacob Tinnerello. Theses shoes will be hard to fill; however, the Tigers have young players anxiously waiting to get their opportunity to show their talent and fill these openings. The boys have started working to continue the high standards of Tiger Baseball. Last year the boys finished with a 21-5 regular season record, 24-7 overall season record, 6-0 in district play, and back to back district championships. In the past two years, 2018 and 2019, the baseball team has gone 46-18 and 14-1 in district play.

WSHS 2019-2020 FOOTBALL BANQUET

The Winnfield Senior High School Football Banquet recognized WSHS football players making a significant impact this past Thursday. Coach Bankston emphasized that it is not just the young men recognized, but the entire team that “represents the school, our community, and our parish when they put the WSHS uniform on.” He also said, “Football teaches discipline, working together as a group, handling a tough situation/a good situation, picking your teammate up, holding each other accountable for the benefit of the team and program. None of that has anything to do with the game, but has everything to do with becoming a responsible adult, taking care of your business, whether it is your family, your job, your religion, or your community.” Coach Bankston continued, “We lost five games this past season within more or less a touchdown. You can do one of two things: you can feel sorry for yourself and blame everyone else, z you can learn from the mistakes you made and get up and go again.

Tigers Come Up Short In Hard Fought Battle

WSHS FB Playoff Week 1 Amite

The Winnfield Tigers traveled to Amite last Friday in the 2019 LHSAA Playoffs and competed hard through four quarters of play. A costly fumble on the Tigers’ 20-yard line on the Tigers’ 2 nd drive of the night proved costly as the Warriors took over and ate up precious time on the clock. The Warriors returned the favor in the second quarter, and the score 7-0, with a bad punt snap that gave the Tigers the ball on the Winnfield 20 yard line, but the Tigers had to settle on a 30 yard field goal by Theeramet Muskibootalert (Mek). With the score 7-3, the Amite Warriors went to work in the air connecting on two long passes for touchdowns ending the half with the Tigers only down by 16 points.
