Roger Dale Verret

Roger Dale Verret, age 57, of Winnfield, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021. He was born Monday, August 17, 1964, in Winnfield, to the union of Nicholas and Sandy Verret. He was a graduate of Winnfield Senior High School and numerous professional programs.

Roger was owner/operator of Verret’s Small Engine Repair and Oilfield Supply. He was a gifted m e c h a n i c . Additionally, he was a talented cook, grill master, woodworker, and gardener. Roger’s nickname was “Rowdy” and it was quite appropriate. He was happiest hosting holiday and other gettogethers where he loved cooking for a crowd of friends and family. Roger had a heart of gold and a very generous spirit. He felt proud to be raising his grandson; which brought him much joy and happiness.

Roger was preceded in death by his mother, Sandy Sanders Verret; paternal grandparents, Samuel and Emma Verret; and maternal grandparents, Clarence and Donie Sanders.

Robert W. Howell

Funeral services for Robert W. Howell, age 89 of Winnfield, were held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints in Winnfield on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Friends visited with the family on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield.

Robert William Howell, a devoted, dedicated, and loving father, trusted friend, committed ministering servant, and a faithful and loyal husband, departed his earthly home in Winnfield, Winn Parish, Louisiana on August 30, 2021. He was born to the union of the late Ponce DeLeon Howell and Hazel Kennedy Howell on August 10, 1932 in Winnfield, Louisiana. His early years were spent on the family farm in Packton, Louisiana where lots of precious memories were made with his parents and eight sisters. He was the eldest of the family of nine children. Being the only boy, he was thoroughly spoiled by his sisters, although he wouldn’t ever admit it.

Jeffery Dale Blake

Mr. Jeffery Dale Blake, age 65 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

Born Tuesday, November 15, 1955 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was a retired auto mechanic.

Mr. Blake was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Mary Johnson Blake; siblings, Jean Paulette and Donnie Blake.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Jeffery Blake; siblings, Phillip Blake, Debbie Green, Doyle Blake and Dianne Blake.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 PM until time of services.

Laura Payne Bonnette

Laura Payne Bonnette passed away peacefully at her home and birthplace on September 2, 2021 with her faithful daughter Patsy by her side. Laura’s godly journey ended just shy of her 100th birthday. A graveside service honoring Laura’s life of faith was held at New Hope Cemetery in Dodson, La. on Monday, September 6th 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverends Robert Leach, Jack Busby, Tim Harris, and Charles Wesley officiating.

Laura was predeceased by her parents I. B. “Buddy” Payne and mother Martha Young Payne. Laura’s husband of 58 years James Ashton Bonnette, her son Jimmy Glen Bonnette and son-in-law Bobby Sharp and dear friend Bob “Bob Day” Tucker. Laura is the last surviving member of 10 siblings, Avis Adrigan (Herman), Ollie Kelly (Clomer), Attrice McKaskle (Mac), Polly Rider (Jim), Laverne Simmons (Morris), Jack Payne (Ernestine), Lewis (Annie Mae), Sue Leach (Phillip), I.B. Payne (Peggy).

Darryl Gene Taylor, 60, of Pitkin, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on August 16, 2021, in South Haven, Mississippi.

Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Many Chapel, and from 8:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Many Chapel. Officiating the service was Bro. Marshall Ingle. Interment followed the service at Cassell Cemetery located in Converse, Louisiana.

Mr. Joey DeWayne Dauzat, age 32 of Joyce, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.

Born Monday, December 19, 1988 in Ruston, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his brother, Travis Mercer; maternal grandparents, Elmore and Ruth Hudson; paternal grandfather, Geroy Dauzat; and uncle, Lester Hudson.

Joey was a member of Old Union Baptist Church and an employee of Jeld-Wen.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 9 years, Stephanie Carnes Dauzat; children, Travis and Jasmine Dauzat: parents, Kathy Hudson Dauzat and Gerald Ray Dauzat; paternal grandmother Lena Dauzat Camp; and uncles, Mike and Mark Hudson, Benny Dauzat; one Aunt, LeeLee LaBorde; inlaws Ronnie and Terry Carnes; sister-in-law, Amber Carnes; and a host of cousins and adopted brothers, Brandon and Wesley Gates and Clayton Roller.

Eva Udene Willis Sanders

Eva Udene Willis Sanders, age 91 of Zwolle, Louisiana, passed peacefully surrounded by family on August 13, 2021.

On February 19, 1930, Udene was born to Elvin and Mary “Molly” Willis in Sikes, Louisiana. Udene was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings: Lamoor Willis, Leon Willis, Leonard Willis, JB Willis, Chloe Shows and Faye Hatten.

She was married for 62 years to the love of her life and late husband, Garland Sanders. They made their home in Winnfield, Louisiana where she was employed by South Central Bell as a telephone operator for many years. She then worked alongside her husband as they built Sanders Tractor Company and Sanders Construction Company. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield where she served as WMU president, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Fuller Rowlan, age 74 of Joyce, Louisiana passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021.

Born Tuesday, August 27, 1946, she was preceded in death by her parents, Hardy Fuller and Dorothy Burns Fuller; husband, Joe Dillion Rowlan.

Mrs. Rowlan was a retired CNA and was a loving mother, grandmother and grandmother who loved cooking for her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Curtis Rowlan (Gail), Raymond Rowlan, Sheila Sayer (Tony), Johnny Rowlan (Kim) and Leisa Ates (Wayne); step-son, Michael Rowlan; sister, Carolyn Gunn; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Hasley Cemetery with Bro. Mathew Long officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Johnny Ray Fannin

Johnny Ray Fannin

Mr. Johnny Ray Fannin, age 69 of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away August 16, 2021 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

Johnny was born in Winnfield, LA and graduated Winnfield Senior High School in 1969. Johnny enlisted in the Louisiana National Guard after graduation and attended Northwestern State University where he earned a bachelors degree in business. During college, he worked at the A&P in Winnfield and continued to work for A&P for over 20 years before retiring. After retiring from A&P, Johnny went to work for Walmart where he has worked for the past 22 years. After helping with the opening of the Winnfield Supercenter, Johnny returned to management and served as an assistant manager for the Ruston Walmart until stepping down to return to the Winnfield Walmart to work in the sporting goods department. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his yard and riding his tractor. He was a member of East Winnfield Baptist Church.
