Clayton Gerald “Jerry” Cook

Clayton Gerald “Jerry” Cook, age 60 of West Monroe, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

Mr. Cook was a former minister of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Winnfield and the Carpenter’s Local #60 Union. He and his wife were owner’s of Cook’s Interior and Design/Insulation.

Born Monday, February 2, 1959 in Shreveport, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie Sue Howard Cook and Clayton Gerald Cook, Sr.; son, Jonathon Cook; and brother, Rickey Dan Cook.

Hedy Joan Weatherly Henderson Butler

Mrs. Hedy Joan Weatherly Henderson Butler, a resident of Jena, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, December 1, 2019.

Mrs. Butler was born in Brinkley, AK on August 14, 1942 to the union of Ira Vernon Weatherly and Florence Florene McCullar. Hedy was the second born of six children.

Hedy attended LaSalle High School and went on to complete her studies in Real Estate at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, TX and later attended Tyler Commercial College where she graduated as an Automation Secretary. On February 28, 1992, Hedy married her husband Robert M “Bob” Butler at Nolley United Methodist Church. Hedy became an active member of her church family and the Nolley UMW Wesley Circle.

Lindy Leon Jordan, Jr.

Mr. Lindy Leon Jordan, Jr., age 49 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019.

Born Monday, August 10, 1970 in Urania, Louisiana, he was a member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church and was employed for over fifteen years by Multi-Chem, a Halliburton Service, where he truly loved his job and the people with whom he worked. He also worked previously in the logging industry.

Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his parents, Lindy Leon Jordan, Sr. and Georgia Ann Brewton; grandparents, Homer and Jewell Jordan and George and Alpha Brewton.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Tara Smith Jordan; son, Dustin Ryan Jordan; sister, Christi Frieu (David); brother, Matthew Jordan (Chasity); brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald Smith (Gladys), Brad Lirette (Renee), Jennifer Jenkins (Tim), Chad Smith (Tesia) and Eva Bogen (Jerome).

Mrs. Cathy Renae Jones McCoy, age 67 of Dodson, Louisiana received her angel wings on Thursday, November 21, 2019. Cathy was born December 21, 1951 in Winnfield, Louisiana to James H. & Louise Jones. She was the oldest of 4 siblings.

After high school, Cathy moved to Shreveport where she met the love of her life, Jimmy. They began their life together and had 3 beautiful children Matt, Mark, and Michelle. During her time in Shreveport Cathy worked as a beautician and spent spare time raising her children and loving on her family. Eventually Cathy and her family moved back to Winnfield where she lived out the rest of her life surrounded by family and many friends, where she retired from Winnfield Police Department after 25 years of service.

Iva Lois Hood

Mrs. Iva Lois Hood, age 88 of Quitman, was carried through the gates of heaven Sunday, December 1, 2019. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to many.

Lois grew up near Gaars Mill and graduated from Sikes High School. After living in the New Orleans area for 55 years, Gene and Lois relocated to Quitman. She was a full time homemaker who enjoyed serving their church in several areas. In addition, she was president of the New Orleans W.M.U. Association and she served on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home of Monroe. Lois will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Friends visited with the family at Edmonds Funeral Home Monday, December 2, 2019 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. Funeral services were held at 2:00pm with Reverend Stuart Toms officiating. Interment was at Friendship Cemetery, near Sikes, under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Services for Louie Folden were held at 9AM, Saturday, November 30, 2019 at The Family Church, Winnfield, LA with Bro. Joel Hines officiating. Visitation was from 4PM until 10PM, Friday, November 29 th and from 8AM until time of service at 9AM, Saturday, November 30 th at the church. Interment was at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Winnfield, LA under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Louie Folden, 75, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Leona Folden; wife, Betty Folden; daughters, Vicki Folden and Sharon Delores; siblings, Etoil Alford, Morris Folden, Dave Folden, Christine Speed and Carlie Ray Folden.

Henry J. Hammons

Mr. Henry J. Hammons, age 81 of Quitman, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and attending car shows. He found joy in working with his hands and “tinkering”. He will be remembered for always helping others. He loved spending time with the loves of his life, his wife of 62 years, sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Hammons is survived by his loving wife, Janette Hammons; sons, James Hammons (Darlene), Mark Hammons (Donna); grandchildren, Darrell Hammons (Tabitha), Cody Hammons (Rebecca), Megan Hinton (Cody); great grandchildren, Nicole Hinton, Jase Hinton, Kaylee Hammons; sisters, Bonita Kennedy, Mary Howard, Josie Byrd (Johnny), Shirley Tibbit, Janie Skains (Buddy), Irma Kelley & Steve. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hodge Jeffery and Willie May (Beatty) Hammons; brothers, Hodge Elmer Hammons, Carl Hammons.

Mr. James William Beck Sr., age 67, was born on May 30, 1952 in Winnfield, Louisiana to Joe Lee and Betty Chadwick Beck. He was the spoiled younger brother of Betty Joe Carpenter (Raymond) and Eunice Beck. They grew up on East Oak Street with numerous neighborhood friends.

James was a very talented man. He worked as a sawyer and millwright. He enjoyed music, dancing, hunting, fishing, and dogs. He loved friends, driving on dirt roads, racing, wrestling, beer, fried foods, chocolate, and mama’s biscuits.

“Beck”, as known by many, passed away Monday, November 18, 2019 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents and many friends.

Mrs. Peggy Lavon Freeman, age 83 of Montgomery, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019.

Born Tuesday, December 24, 1935 in San Bernardino, California , she was preceded in death by her parents, Flora Ford Prather and Carl Prather; and siblings, James E. Prather, Inez Stewart, Don Prather, Bill Prather, and Paul Prather.

Mrs. Freeman loved to cook big dinners for her family and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 68 years, James C. “Gabby” Freeman, Sr., daughter, Irene Lohman; daughter, Nola Freeman; son, James C. “Chicken Man” Freeman, Jr. (Jayme); daughter, Mary F. McManus (Ty); brother, Jerry Prather (Darlene); 7 Grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, and 9 great great great grandchildren.

Joseph Clayton Fletcher

Mr. Joseph Clayton Fletcher, age 72 of Montgomery, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.

Born Tuesday, December 24, 1946 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Betty Cupp Fletcher; brothers, James Fletcher and Ronnie Fletcher; sisters-in-law, Earlene Fredieu and Martha Fletcher; brothersin-law, Floyd Fredieu and Alan Coolman.

Mr. Fletcher was a retired heavy equipment operator with 40 years of service. When he wasn’t working, he loved gardening, taking care of his chickens and ducks. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved his church family and going to church while spreading the word of God and singing praises.
