Kenneth Charles Carpenter, Jr.

Kenneth Charles Carpenter, Jr., age 61 of Calvin, Louisiana passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016. Born Thursday, September 30, 1954 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his mother, Loreese Machen Carpenter; father, Kenneth Charles Carpenter; and wife, Jeanne Carpenter. Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Pierce Carpenter and wife Tiffany, Scottsboro, AL and Bobby Carpenter and wife Stacia, Dry Prong, LA; grandchildren, Cole, Audaleigh, and Emmylou Carpenter; brother, Eugene Cockerham, Augusta, GA; sisters, June Sanders, Winnfield, LA, Annette Womack, Winnfield, LA, and Peggy Lodridge, Dry Prong, LA; and numerous step children, step grandchildren, and other relatives. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Murrell officiating. Interment followed in Cypress Creek Cemetery, in Dodson.

Jimmie Maurice Frazier

Mrs. Jimmie Maurice Frazier, age 94 of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Winn Parish Medical Center. Mrs. Frazier was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield where she was a member of the Tri L Sunday School Class. She was retired from Winn Department Store. Mrs. Frazier was the daughter of Jonah H. Steen and Eva Martin Steen and was also preceded in death by her husband Cloy Lee Frazier, son Mickey Frazier, Daughter, Jan Frazier Wilson, two grandchildren Allison Lynette Wilson and Jennifer Leigh Wilson, brother JT Steen and sister Joyce Stott.

Ronald “Peewee”, “Chalk” King

Our beloved Ronald “Peewee”, “Chalk” King was born on November 17, 1953 to the late Mildred and James B. King Sr. He was the youngest of two sets of twins. He joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Fred Jacobs before moving to Houston, TX. While in Houston he worked for years as a construction worker. He then moved back to Winnfield per his mother’s wishes. After moving back he began working at a local saw mill until he began having health issues. He was an outgoi.ng man who loved his family, sports, dancing, and his favorite food “potato salad”. His health began to fail again in November 2015. While in the hospital he accepted Christ and became a member of the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James B. King Jr. He departed this life on April 29, 2016 at the Rapides Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents Mildred and James B.

Jerry Wayne Barton

Jerry Wayne Barton, 79, passed away April 19, 2016 in Conroe, TX. Mr. Barton was born July 28, 1936 in Gilbert, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Lottie Barton, and three siblings Bill Barton, J.C. Barton and Gail Barton. Survivors include three daughters, Geri Procell and husband Davis, Lynn Dauzat and husband Leslie, and Rachel Barton; grandchildren Dustin, Jamie and wife Heather, Jesse and wife Bridgette, Paul (Bubba) and wife Casey, Trey, Tracy and Ashlyn; several great grandchildren; and two siblings, Sue Gunnell and husband Johnny Lee and Sam Barton. A memorial service was held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 5 p.m. at Magnolia Funeral Home in Magnolia, TX.

Ronnie Brewton of Baton Rouge, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 66 years old. He was born August 26, 1949, in Winnfield, LA. He was a geologist retired from the State of Louisiana and Subsurface Group. He was an active member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church and the Dallas Fiandt Sunday School Class. Ronnie is survived by his wife of 18 years, Arlene Brewton; his daughters, Suzette Fatula and husband, Mike, Valerie Mullinax and husband, Jonathon, and Rebecca Lane and husband, Scott; his son, Jeffery Brewton and wife, Rachel; his seven grandchildren, Tyler Ferguson, Blake Fatula, AJ and Josh Brewton, Sara, Cooper, and Emma Lane; and his sister, Pennie Klahr. He is preceded in death by his parents, GE and Sara Mac Brewton; and his infant daughter, Amy Elizabeth. Celebration of Life Service was held at at 11:00 AM Friday, May 6, 2016. Arthur D. “Sonny” Warner

Mr. Arthur D. “Sonny” Warner, age 86 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Born Friday, July 12, 1929 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was a member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church and the American Legion. He was also an election poll worker for many years, enjoyed gardening and was retired from Placid Oil Company as well as the US Army National Guard as Captain. Mr. Warner was preceded in death by his Parents, Ocie Olion Warner, Sr. and Audie Waller Warner; Wife, Elizabeth Garrard Warner; Brothers, Olian Warner and Morgan Warner; Sisters, Elaine DeBusk and Nelda Stephens; Grandson, Joshua Warner. Mr. Joseph Richard “Joe” Creel, age 74 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Born Saturday, January 17, 1942 in Joyce, Louisiana, he was a retired electrician, active member of Welcome Home Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Master Mason. Mr. Creel was preceded in death by his Parents, Silas and Lelwyn Porter Creel; Brother, John Creel; Sister, Jenna Gates. Those left to cherish his memory include his Wife, Patsy White Creel of Dodson; Daughters, Thalia Jordan and husband Tim, Candace Heard, Daina Frederick and husband Tony and Deana Barber and husband Ricky all of Winnfield; 9 Grandchildren and 5 Great-grandchildren; Sisters, Sara Sanders of Winnfield and Ruth Gard of Baytown, TX; Brother, Porter Creel of Winnfield. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Welcome Home Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Moore and Rev. Lavell Spillers officiating.

Betty Jo McCarty- Roberts

Betty Jo McCarty-Roberts, 72, became a guardian angel on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, in Panama City, Florida, surrounded by her family. She was born in Winnfield, Louisiana on December 29, 1943, and grew up in both Sikes and Winnfield. She played basketball for Winnfield High School where she was known for her right-hook shot, and valued the friendships she gained there throughout her lifetime. Jo, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, earned her Bachelors of Science at Angelo State University, her Masters of Education at McNeese State University, and then her Doctor of Education at Oklahoma State University. She valued education stating if she could, she would make a career of being a full-time student. She was a resident of Panama City, Florida for over 25 years, having retired from Florida State University in 2004, where she was a professor of Elementary Education. She loved to teach and genuinely cared about her colleagues and students.
