Alan Dwitt Carpenter

Alan Dwitt Carpenter, age 29 of Saline, LA passed away June 17, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Carpenter was born April 13, 1987 in Ruston, LA. He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandfather Jimmy Rex Carpenter, Maternal Grandfather Darrell Storar and a special Great Aunt Jewel Andrews. Survivors are his wife Tiffany Bailey of Haughton, LA; one son Stratton Alan Carpenter of Haughton, LA; father Timothy Alan Carpenter of Saline, LA; mother Stacy Lynn Storar of Stamps, AR; two brothers Michael Carpenter and wife Jessica of Stamps, Ar and Nicholas Storar of Stamp, AR; one sister Jennifer Sanders and husband Jason of Stamps, AR; paternal grandmother Betty Carpenter of Goldonna, LA; maternal grandmother Elaine Esters of Stamps, AR; uncle and aunt Monty Dale Carpenter and wife Pam of Saline, LA; niece and nephew Jacie and Jackson Sanders of Stamps, AR; and a host of cousins and friends. Services were held June 21, 2016 AT 10:00 a.m. at Antioch Community Church with Bro.

Dorothy Myers Bryant

On June 17, 2016, Dorothy Myers Bryant departed this Earth to be with her Heavenly Father. A Louisiana native, she was born in Chestnut, on February 16, 1930, to Vernon and Estelle Gunter Myers. Dot lived in Winnfield the majority of her life. She also lived in Youngsville and Goldonna before moving to Forney, Texas in 2012, where she resided at Ridgecrest Healthcare Center until her passing. Dot’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Friday, July 1, 2016, at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, Louisiana. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 pm. The service, officiated by Rev. John Holland, will begin at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at the Goldonna Cemetery. New Hope Funeral Home, Sunnyvale, Texas and Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield are providing funeral services. Dot was preceded in death by Clovis C. Bryant, her loving husband of 55 years, her parents, her sister, Audie Myers Thomas, and former son-in-law Richard Ashcroft, Jr.

Ina Jean Walker Peters

Mrs. Ina Jean Walker Peters, age 82 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016. Born Sunday, May 6, 1934 in Luverne, Alabama, she was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry Stephens Walker and Susan Jayroe Walker; husband, Dr. J. Paul Peters, Jr.; brother, Jerry S. Walker, Jr.; and a stillborn son. Mrs. Peters graduated from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL. She worked as a teacher before her marriage and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Peters delighted in preparing Sunday and holiday meals for her family, taking trips to the beach and back to her hometown in Alabama to visit with family and lifelong friends. She loved playing bridge with her friends and family and was an avid reader and baseball fan. Mrs. Peters played the piano and organ for numerous churches and events in her younger years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winnfield and enjoyed her years as a member of the Chancel Choir.

Thomas Ray “Smitty” Smith

Thomas Ray “Smitty” Smith, 68 of Winnfield, LA passed away June 22, 2016. He was born February 6, 1948. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents Harlan and Marie Parker Smith and son Tommy Smith. He is survived by his wife Irene Smith of Quitman, LA; daughter Lisa Smith Hales and husband Darrell of Oceans Springs, MS; grandchildren: Chloe Hales and DJ Hales of Ocean Springs, MS and Chelsie, Hannah and Madyson Smith of Winnfield, LA; brothers JW Smith of Monroe, LA and John Smith and wife Teresa Smith of Gaars Mill, LA; and sisters Janet Lazenby and husband Mike of Downsville, LA and Maryann Fletcher and husband Buck of Columbia, LA. Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church in Jordan Hill. Private graveside at a later date.

Preston Eugene Bedgood

Mr. Preston Eugene Bedgood, age 64 of Goldonna, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016. Born Wednesday, November 14, 1951 in Goldonna, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Bootsie Edward Bedgood and Maybell Gordy Bedgood; wife, Carolyn Bedgood; son, Travis Malone; and brother, James Douglas Bedgood. Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Terry Bedgood, Goldonna, LA; and sisters, Dianne Procell, Goldonna, LA and Bonnie Fredericks, Vivian, LA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Southern Funeral Home, from 9:00 AM until time of services. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. George Procell officiating. Interment will follow in Goldonna Cemetery, in Goldonna. David Glen (Deacon) Smiley

David Glen (Deacon) Smiley was born October 14, 1939 to Fred and Lottie Smiley. He went home to be with Jesus on May 30, 2016 at 12:47 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred Ander and Lottie Mae Smiley, his brothers, Lavelle and L.V. Smiley and several other family members. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Gloria Jean. Glen or Deacon as most people knew him is survived by 2 brothers, Alvin and wife Mary Bob Smiley of Shreveport; Wilburn Smiley of Dodson, 2 sisters, Vera Grishom of Winnfield and Thera Lee Durbin of Jonesboro; 2 sons, Carl and wife Betty of Florida and David; 4 daughters, Glenda and husband Michael, Kayla and Paul, Katrenia, Cristy, all of Washington. Glen was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Glen (Deacon) enjoyed his family and friends in Washington and Louisiana by visiting often. Everyone enjoyed his visits, his smiles and his outlook on life. Services were held June 10, 2016 at 3 p.m.
