Sheriff Cranford Jordan Announces Arrest

The sheep, goat, and hog barn located at the Winn Parish fairgrounds was officially named after the late Chad Camp and Emma Claire Gill. Both the Camp and Gill families have been very supportive of Winn Parish 4-H and FFA programs. It was only fitting that both Chad and Emma Claire be memorialized in such a wonderful way.

Sheriff Cranford Jordan Announces Arrest

The Winnfield Fire Department had the honor of flying the WoodmenLife American flag during the Winnfield Senior Highschool Homecoming football game on Oct 6. WFD used Ladder-1 to hoist the flag in the north end zone of the stadium.

A Winn Parish man who was recently arrested for fugitive warrants and resisting arrest has again been arrested by Winn Parish deputies.

An investigator just wrapped up an investigation initiated by the man’s ex-girlfriend. The investigator developed probable cause that the man had committed Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile and an arrest warrant was obtained.

The warrant was served to the man listed below while still at the Winn Parish Detention Center on his other charges.

Winn Parish School System Encourages Reading to Infants and Toddlers

Federal Programs Director Bridgette Bartlett (on left) and Early Childhood Supervisor Amanda Taylor (on right) are holding books available with the infants and toddlers reading kits at the Winn Parish School Board Office. Parents of infants and toddlers ages 0-36 months are encouraged to pick up their free reading kits now. Only 36 reading kits are still available.

The Lead Agency of the Winn Parish School Board is providing reading kits to families with infants and toddlers ages 0-36 months. These kits include 6 bilingual board books, 1 puppet, and a bilingual Raising a Reader Family Shared Reading Program Infant & Toddler Guide. This guide gives tips on sharing books with infants ages 0-12 months and toddlers ages 12-36 months. Families of infants and toddlers are encouraged to pick up their free reading kit today at the Winn Parish School Board Office. These reading kits were purchased by the Believe grant written by Lead Agency and Early Childhood Supervisor Amanda Taylor. The 36 reading kits are available on a first come, first served basis. The Winnfield Fire Department signed up a new member recently. Firefighters were dispatched to a reported brush fire in a yard and their probie was first on scene. Once the engine arrived the young man grabbed a booster line and went to work. Within a few minutes he had the fire completely extinguished. Great job young man!

PAR Guide to Amendments on Oct. 14 Ballot

On Oct. 14 voters are asked to consider four amendments to the Louisiana constitution. The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR) has released its PAR Guide to the 2023 Constitutional Amendments. This independent, nonpartisan review is designed to help voters understand the issues so they can develop their own positions on each proposition.

The Guide is educational and does not recommend how to vote. The Alta and John Franks Foundation and The Collins C. Diboll Private Foundation provided support for the report.

Here is a review of each amendment on the Oct 14 ballot.

(Prohibiting donations to conduct elections) Do you support an amendment to prohibit the use of foods, goods or services from a foreign government or a nongovernmental source to conduct elections and election functions and duties unless the use is authorized by the secretary of state through policies established in accordance of the law?

Fall Festival to be Held on October 31

Participation is needed from individuals, businesses, and groups to participate in the 2023 Fall Festival in Winnfield. It will be held on Tuesday, Oct 31 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm and will run from Main St to the First United Methodist Church to the Louisiana Political Museum.

There will be a costume contest beginning at 5:30 at the Louisiana Political Museum. Registration begins at 5:00 PM. The age groups include: 0-3 years, 4-7 years, 8-10 years, 11-13 years, 14-17 years, 18 years & Up, theme groups, and pets (one category).

A Pumpkin Decorating Contest will begin at 5:30 PM with registration at 5:00 at the Louisiana Political Museum. The age groups include: Pre-K – 1st grade, 2nd – 5th grade, 6-8th grade. Please attach child’s name, parent’s name & a contact phone number to the pumpkin.

Early Voting Began September 30 for the October 14 Election

Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin reminds voters that early voting for the Oct. 14 Gubernatorial Primary Election began Saturday, Sept. 30, and continues through Saturday, Oct. 7( excluding Sunday, Oct. 1) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Citizens who want to vote early may do so in person at their parish Registrar of Voters Office or at other designated locations.

Voters are encouraged to utilize Louisiana’s award-winning, free smartphone app, GeauxVote Mobile, to locate parish early voting locations, Election Day voting site, or view their sample ballot. GeauxBot, the virtual voter assistant, is also available to access pertinent election information such as registration deadlines, election dates, polling locations, and hours.
