A Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held on March 30 beginning at 11am at Winnfield First United Methodist Church.
Several organizations and churches have collaborated together to put on this special event and would like to extend an invitation for everyone to join in the fun.
There will be hotdogs, chips and drinks after the egg hunt. There will also be a cakewalk and a photo area where children can get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny on the day of the event. A scavenger hunt will be held the week prior to the event with the award for the winner of the scavenger hunt being awarded after the Easter egg hunt at about noon on the 30th.
There will also be an Easter Bonnet Pageant sponsored by Bank of Winnfield.
Brad Cooper, Winn District Ranger, spoke to the Kiwanis Club, Tuesday, March 12th. Cooper grew up in Idaho. He has been here for 5 years coming from Phoenix, Arizona where he was a deputy ranger.
Winn Parish is set to welcome visitors from across the country, March 18th – March 24th. That’s when the largest crowd in the world of field trials will gather for the 29th Annual Uncle Earl’s Hog Dog Trials. It has become a week long tradition of celebrating the sport of hog baying that Winnfield’s own, three time Louisiana governor “Uncle” Earl Long was known for.
1994 was the first year of the hog dog trials here in Winnfield and was rightfully named after the former governor. Later, in 2011, a new corporation was formed to take over the event and a new board was created to run it.
The annual Kiwanis Scholarship meal will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Winn Farmers Market on Main Street. The menu will consist of Boston Butt steak, potato salad, green beans, bread and dessert. It is take out only and pickup is 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Delivery is available for large orders. Tickets are $10 each and available from any Kiwanis member.
This scholarship meal funds our scholarships for at least 2 high school seniors in the schools of Winn Parish which includes Calvin, Dodson and Winnfield Senior High School. We would also like to give a scholarship to the Central Louisiana Technical College in Winnfield. We appreciate all the support we get from the community with our projects that help the children of our community.

The item of business on the agenda for a special called meeting of the Winn Parish Police Jury was to review the position of the Winn Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director. The meeting went into executive session after a motion was made by Mr. Phillip Evans and with a second by Vice President Deionne Carpenter and a vote, the motion carried.
The current OHSEP Director is Sheriff Cranford Jordan. He has been replaced by Mrs. Cindy Tilton effective April 1, 2024. Mrs. Tilton is currently the Administrative Assistant to the Director. The Enterprise reached out to Sheriff Jordan to ask about his time as OHSEP Director and he stated that the police jury had not informed him that he was being replaced. He did state that he felt strongly that Mrs. Tilton would do a wonderful job for the parish as she has several years of experience and is very capable and dependable.
Early Voting will be held in the Registrar of Voters office in the Winn Parish Courthouse Saturday, March 9 through Saturday, March 16 (closed Sunday, March 10) from 8:30 AM until
6:00 PM. Enter through the Main Street entrance. The election will be Saturday, March
23. Sample ballots are also posted on the wall outside the Registrar of Voters Office. Sample ballots will be posted on page 3.
It was a first for the Kiwanis Club of Winnfield as all five officers attended a district even on Saturday, March 2. The LaMissTenn District Mid Winter Conference was held at the Natchez Convention Center in Natchez, Mississippi. Kiwanis Club of Winnfield Attends Conference in Mississippi
Artist Mike Roberts stated that this project was one of the greatest honors in his years of painting. Roberts was commissioned by Grant Parish businessman Chris Carr to paint this 22x28 life size oil painting of Winn Parish Sheriff, Cranford Jordan. The stunning portrait was presented to Sheriff Jordan by Carr and his son Lucas at the WPSO recently. Lucas is pictured with the sheriff above. Roberts thanked Carr for the honor of “painting a man who has given a lifetime of law enforcement, safety, rescue, protection, production, stability, and loving service to Winn Parish.”
Mrs. Washington, librarian from the Atlanta branch of the Winn Parish Library, visited Magnolia Bend Atlanta Academy recently. Mrs. Washington joined in the Read Across America celebration by reading a Dr. Seuss book to the students. She also provided several activities for the class to participate in and then led them in a fun game, “Pin the Hat on Dr. Seuss”. It was a great time for all.

CLTCC Winnfield was the location of the District VI Mechanis Competition this year. It was held on March 7 and Winnfield FFA Chapter went home with several placements.
