On October 13 the Home Hardware Center held their annual Customer Appreciation Day. The Home Hardware Center brought their traveling BBQ to town and served up free sausage dogs and Cokes to all who came by the store.

Sarah and Jacob exchanged marriage vows at 6:00 in the evening on June 25th at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Calhoun, LA. Johnny Hankins and Lavelle Spillers officiated the ceremony. Parents of the couple are Joe and Cindy Shields of Dodson, LA and Jeff and Terri Murphy of Calhoun, LA. The grandparents of the bride are Jerline Jordan and the late John Jordan of Dodson, LA and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Shields of Quitman, LA. The grandparents of the groom are Pat Golson and the late Percy Golson of West Monroe, LA, Nelwyn Murphy of Arkansas, the late Edward Murphy of Texas, and Thomas Doss of California.

Lorraine’s Holds Ribbon Cutting, Has New Owner

Lorraine Taylor has been serving Winnfield for the past 45 years as the owner of Lorraine’s Beauty Shop. At the end of August, Lorraine’s daughter Nikki Hanson purchased the salon. With the new owner comes a new name and location, Lorraine & Company Hair Salon is located at 207 South Abel St. Winnfield.

Special guests at the September 17 meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 9 of Winnfield were the 2016 Girls State representatives (left to right) Julie Bartley, Harli Austin, and Gabrielle Gresham. The young ladies spoke to the group about their recent experiences at La. Girls State, which is sponsored each year by the American Legion Auxiliary. At the close of the program, each girl was presented a certificate of excellence from the local chapter.

Winn Parish Clerk of Court Chesney Baxley speaks to Kiwanis Club

Newly elected Clerk of Court Chesney Baxley spoke to the Kiwanis club Monday, Sept. 19th. Some of the duties of the Clerk of Court are related to conveyances, mortgages, marriage licenses, recording of deeds and other things related to the court. The clerk’s office is responsible for civil and criminal minutes for the court. They also help with the elections and hold a school for commissioners.

Rotary Holds September 21 Meeting

“Healing Close to Home” is a theme of the Specialty Hospital of Winnfield as Rotarians heard at their September 21 meeting. Bryan Bogle, CEO of Winn Parish Medical Center, has previous told the members how the local hospital is working to provide as many quality medical services as possible to keep local residents from having to make long drives to receive medical care. He had the program Wednesday and invited administrator Chuck Jurek of the Specialty Hospital where the goal is similar.

Bryan Bogle, Winn Parish Medical Center CEO, speaks to Kiwanis Club

Winn Parish Medical Center CEO Bryan Bogle spoke to the Winnfield Kiwanis club, Monday, September 12. Bogle said he had returned to Winnfield in February and was very happy to be back and he planned to stay. He gave the club a history of the hospital beginning with Winnfield General Hospital begun in 1948 by local doctors. In 1970 the hospital was purchased by Humana, in 1994 it was purchased by HCA as part of the Rapides system, in 2009 Progressive Acute Care bought it and now in 2016 our current facility was purchased by Allegiance Health Management. The Winn Parish Medical Center has 86,000 square feet and is on 9 acres.
