Seeking Helping and Making Changes in the New Year

Seeking Helping and Making Changes in the New Year

Christmas came a little early for WPSO deputies. Each deputy received new bullet proof vests. Deputy Jason Turner is pictured holding his new vest.

Domestic violence is, in many ways, a quiet epidemic. Although in plain sight, victims are often invisible, fearfully denying their situation and appearing to put up a happy home front. Sadly, statistics show otherwise. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S., according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. A mind-boggling one in three women (and one in four men) has been a victim of physical brutality by an intimate partner. That makes intimate partner violence “the single greatest cause of injury to women,” per the Domestic Violence Intervention Program.
