The WHS/WSHS annual alumni reunion will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Winnfield Civic Center. The annual event is hosted by the class celebrating their 50th high school reunion. The class of 1974, directed by Paul Harlan, has been working diligently to bring the alumni a memory filled reunion. . If you are a graduate of Winnfield High School or Winnfield Senior High School, or if you attended, but for any reason did not graduate, you are welcome to come to the reunion as long as you are pre-registered. The City of Winnfield and Mayor Gerald Hamms is elated to ask all City and Parish Citizens to join us on Wednesday, May 8 at 2 pm for the reenactment of the 80’s poster created during former Mayor Max Kelley term on Why Winnfield Means Business. With Mayor Hamms goals and expectation of the growth of the City he is asking everyone “Why Not Winn”. We are asking all business owners, all citizens, students and staff of the Winnfield Middle School and Winnfield Senior High School, school board staff to meet us a Stokes Walker Stadium.

On February 1, 1974, P.K. Smith was appointed franchise dealer for chevrolet cars and trucks in Winn Parish. On that date, he officially became the owner of Max Thieme Chevrolet and in doing so renamed it P.K. Smith Chevrolet Company, Inc. Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Winnfield who served as a state representative from 1960 until 1964. In 1965 he purchased the Huey P Long Motel and restaurant and Parkway Drive In Theatre that he and his family operated. Smith’s wife Margie operated a beauty shop and also a dress shop.

P.K. and his wife, along with their two son’s Perry Joe and Mike, worked together in the family businesses with Perry Joe joining his parents in the motel operation after attending NSU. Mike was a teacher at the Winn Vocational School but made the decision to devote his time fully to the family businesses after the acquisition of P.K. Smith Chevrolet.

The Early College and Career Academy Cohort I for Central Louisiana Technical Community College will have a Patient Care Technician (PCT) pinning ceremony on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 1:00pm. The participants are also high school seniors enrolled in Winn Parish.

The event will be in the Multipurpose Room at the Huey P. Long Campus at 5960 US 167 N, Winnfield, LA 71483.

This class will also participate in the CLTCC graduation ceremony receiving technical diplomas on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, in Alexandria, LA at the Pentecostals of Alexandria Auditorium.

From the days of my youth, I recall with great fondness the presidency of President Ronald Reagan. Full disclosure—my brother Tom was working on the White House Staff at the time, and I was attending The Heights Preparatory School in Potomac, Maryland. So, on the weekends, I rode the Metro down to D.C. to meet my brother at the White House where we would often remain in his office late on Saturday nights as he wrapped up his work for the week.

I clearly remember Pres. Reagan’s unbounded optimism about America and its place in the world, his strong domestic record including record employment and an economy exploding with growth, his focus on the traditional family unit and the conservative social values that were its foundation, and his view of the need for America to be militarily strong.

(Winnfield, Louisiana)- City of Winnfield is pleased to be selected as one of the 71 recipients of the 2023-24 Keep Louisiana Beautiful Trash Receptacle Grant Program made possible with funding from the State of Louisiana and Office of the Lieutenant Governor. The City of Winnfield will install 10 trash receptacles at the following locations: T&G Park (behind Brenda’s Chicken) Pea Patch Courthouse Pharmacy Services/Allen building area The Stump Grove Street Park (2) Henderson Holden Park (2) Winn Farmers Market Area Through the 2024 Trash Receptacle Grant Program, Keep Louisiana Beautiful awarded 628 receptacles to 71 organizations in 40 parishes for a total value of $491,294.

As part of the requirements of this grant, City of Winnfield will perform a post installation litter scan and compare the data collected to preliminary scan results. Data will be shared with the public once available.

Winnfield Central Fire Station, located at 306 S. Abel St. in Winnfield invites everyone to its Truck Dedication and Open House on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 11 am to 2 pm with Truck Ceremony at 12 pm. Come celebrate the dedication of the new fire truck with a traditional “Pushing of the Truck”. There will also be tables set up with equipment displays from the past to present, fire prevention table with free smoke detectors, coloring books for kids, fire extinguisher demonstration, refreshments and much more. All are invited.

For the third year in a row the Keep Louisiana Clean project is hosting the Love the Boot Week, April 20-28. It’s seven days of litter cleanup, beautification, and recycling. Winn Parish participated this past Saturday by forming teams and cleaning up litter throughout the parish. Even with the dreary weather many turned out for the event. Afterward, the teams gathered at the Grove Street Recreation Center for hamburgers and lots of door prizes.
