“Could This Week Be the Week?”

Yes, could this week be the week?

“For what?” one asks with a puzzled look.

“For President Biden’s removal from office and Trump’s return?” asks another person, who supports all the conspiracy theories.

And, my answer is the same as the one given by someone when asked “What do you think about ignorance and apathy?”

“I don’t know and I don’t care.”

But, I do care about what possibly might happen in light of God’s Word and Endtime prophecies. And, that’s why I asked the question: “Could this week be THE week?”

You know: the week when Jesus comes back again as He promised (John 14:1-4; Acts 1:9-11)?

Why would I think that way?

Quite simply because this past Monday night at sundown began the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, which will continue until sundown next Monday, Sept. 27.

One of my chicks has flown the nest.

Two weeks ago, we moved our oldest son Reece into his dorm at LSU. He’s studying Economics and Philosophy in the Ogden Honors College with dreams of becoming a lawyer and a professor.

In the months leading up to his move-in day, I tried to soak in the sound of his footsteps booming down the wooden stairs, the way he played Grateful Dead’s “Brown-Eyed Women” beautifully by-ear on the piano in our living room, and his casual, deep-voiced “Love y’all” when he was leaving to go hang out with friends.

I made the mistake of listening to Katrina Kenison’s “The Gift of an Ordinary Day” on YouTube.

If there was ever a time you need it, it’s now.

“Hope as a sure-and-steadfast Anchor of the soul” (Hebrews 6:18-20).

Yes, last week’s debacle in Afghanistan— precipitated by the sudden, seemingly haphazard departure of American forces from Kabul and the Taliban’s lightningquick takeover of everything—has left us all reeling in disbelief.

Likewise, the sight of the seven Afghanis (including a young member of the Afghan’s national soccer team) plunging to their deaths from the USAF C-17 that’d just taken off, left us sickto-our-stomachs.

It reminded me of those poor souls jumping out of the windows of the twin towers in NYC and plunging to their deaths on 9/11.

When I was a little girl, Friday night was “Pizza Night.” To this day, we have pizza for supper every Friday night. It’s tradition and it’s always a fun time.

But about three weeks ago, for the first time ever, “Friday Night Pizza Night’ was - as my mom put it – “the Pizza Night from hell.”

My family, my sister Ashley’s family, and my parents decided to meet at Johnny’s Pizza on Southern Loop in Shreveport.

On the way there, Dad was pulling a trailer and bumped into a vehicle in front of him. Miraculously, they got that cleared up and actually made it to Johnny’s Pizza to meet us.

Repentance.

It’s a “turning from” and a “turning to”— and “a change of heart and mind.”

But, the question is: “Is repentance required for Salvation?”

And, the answer is “No;” however, if there’s been True Salvation there’ll be True Repentance.

Simply put, if there’s no repentance. . .i.e., a visible change in one’s attitude and actions . . . beliefs and behavior. . .it’s clear that person hasn’t experienced the New Birth. . .or been saved, redeemed or born again.

Growing up, I was taught that people could simply say “the sinner’s prayer” inviting Christ into their heart, and then afterward they were essentially able to live their lives any way they wanted because they were now “once saved, always saved.”

As I matured as a Christian, I realized through Scripture that this is not true and is a dangerous doctrine being taught by many churches.

Below, I’m sharing a portion of a short, sobering talk I heard recently called “Why You Probably ARE NOT a Christian”:

“If you think that being part of a denomination makes you a Christian, then you are probably not a Christian.

Yes, if there ever was a time for doing it:

It’s now.

“What’s that?” someone asks.

“Getting the vaccination? Wearing the masking? Requiring a vaccination passport before you can go shopping. . .or to the mall. . .or to church. . .or to school. . .or a concert. . . or riding public transportation??”

Nope.

Look around. The world is trying desperately to skew God’s symbolism of the rainbow.

Even most children’s clothing lines are now pushing another meaning of the rainbow by providing rainbow-colored “pride wear” for innocent children and babies.

Even pet stores have entire sections of rainbow pet items.

Old Navy now offers a “Gender Neutral” line of clothing which features kids wearing “pride” rainbow clothes and other apparel. The gender of many of the children featured in the Old Navy ads is not discernible.

Also known as Critical Race Theory, this Marxist ideology of inherent and systemic racism—i.e., that we’re all born racists (particularly white folks)—is rapidly gaining a foothold in our government, institutions of higher learning, corporations, the military and even churches.

Its roots trace back to legal scholarship in the 1980s that challenged conventional thinking about racial discrimination. Ever since the emergence of the civil rights’ movement under Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in the 1960s, activists had pushed for equal treatment under the law and the expanding of constitutional rights.

Even though the landmark case of Brown v Board of Education in 1954 ruled that “separate is not equal” and state laws protecting segregated public schools are unconstitutional, the fact remains that segregation still exists.

Summers in the 1980s when I was a schoolage girl were the best.

It wasn’t that we went on fancy vacations back then or had unique plans. It was the “gift of the ordinary days” when time seemed to stand still.

My sisters and I and local friends spent countless hours in our pool playing games like Sharks and Minnows and Marco Polo. We alternated swimming with riding the fourwheeler in the trails in the woods, our wet hair drying in the wind.

I can recall those trails, the turns and hills and shortcuts still clear in my mind from thirty-plus years ago.

Otter Pop popsicles that Momma bought from Sam’s Club in Shreveport were the go-to summer treat, and everyone tried to grab the Poncho Punch flavor first. Alexander the Grape was a close second. They still make those popsicles, but they aren’t quite as good or as big as they were in the 80s.
