Calvin High School FFA Team Compete at National Level

The State of Louisiana was certainly represented well at the National FFA Convention on October 22-26, when seven excited students from Calvin High School all loaded up for the long journey to Indianapolis, IN to compete against other teams representing their state for Parliamentary Law.

Downtown Christmas Open House, November 8th

The Winn Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and local businesses have been working diligently to get ready for one of the biggest nights for the Holidays.

Christmas Open House will be November 8, 2018, from 5pm to 9pm. There will be many businesses open to have your seasonal shopping needs at your fingertips.

Tracy Wold speaks to Kiwanis Club at Recent Meeting

Tracy Wold, graduate of Winnfield Senior High, spoke to the Kiwanis club Monday about saving lives with tourniquets.

Wold is employed by Pafford EMS out of Ruston and they use planes, helicopters and ambulances to do their work. He worked in Winn Parish from 1997 – 2002 on the ambulance. Wold trained the local sheriff’s deputies in the use of tourniquets a few weeks back and gave each of them a tourniquet to carry with them.

Golden Years Host First Annual Senior Citizen Celebration

The first Annual Golden Years Celebration was held at the Pine Crest Annex building. The event took place on November 3, 2018.

Senior Citizens of 80 years of age and older were honored at this gathering.

Winn Parish Jail Holds Open House

Thursday, October 25, the new Winn Parish Jail was open for the community to come and take a look.

This project has been in the making for the past five years, two of those years being construction. Current Sheriff Cranford Jordan offered top of the line hospitality to those who came out to tour the facility. A great lunch was provided for everyone, along with a coffee cup, compliments of the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Winn Parish Man Charged with Attemped 2nd Degree Murder

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Oct. 15, Red River Parish Sheriff’s Communications received multiple calls for service involving weapons and shots fired. Multiple Coushatta Police Department and Red River Parish Sheriff’s units were dispatched to three different locations within the city limits of Coushatta.

At 8:08 p.m. Red River Parish Sheriff’s Communications received a call regarding an altercation at the Natchitoches Meat Pie facility located in the Industrial Park in Coushatta.

November 6 Elections for Winn Includes Seats

Winn Parish voters have a number of key local decision on the Tuesday, November 6 ballot that include four seats on the Winn Parish School Board, a Dodson Chief of Police and three spots on the Dodson Board of Aldermen.

In addition all local voters will cast their ballot for a U.S. Congressman from the Fifth Congressional District, a Louisiana Secretary of State, six constitutional amendments and one proposition to allow fantasy sports gambling in the parish. (See related story on amendments).
