Rotarian Delane Adams had the program for the week of November 28 th , Rotary meeting.

He invited his son Chris Adams, whom works with the Louisiana State Police, to speak on the HAZMAT operations in Louisianan. Adams works with an emergency service unit that gets called out to control hazardous materials and explosives. For the North West region that Adams works in, there are 4 responders, himself and then his Lieutenant that cover that area. This region covers 29 parishes.

He presented several pictures of past HAZMAT incidents that have happened in Louisiana. This covers plants, barges, trucks, trains, and so much more transportations that carry hazardous material or things that are explosives or could potentially be explosives.

Saturday, December 8 th , Grove Street Gym will be having a Family Fun Day. It will begin at 10 am and last till noon.

This is an opportunity to see the newly renovated Grove Street Gym and what recreation activates they have to offer every one of all ages.

The recreation department offers baseball, football, and basketball seasonally for the kiddos. They also have a play ground for those sunny days.

This Christmas Vendor Market will be held December 7, 2018 at the Winnfield Civic Center from 5 pm through 9 pm. It will only be a $1 admission or a pair of socks. All admission proceeds will be donated. Some of the vendors listed are Rodan and Fields, Tupperware, and Younique.

There will be all kinds of Christmas goodies. There will also be a $100 cash drawing that will be taking place that night.

Fifty-three Winn Parish veterans and their families were honored guests last week at the annual Veterans Luncheon sponsored by the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Cranford Jordan. The luncheon, held on the Huey P. Long Campus of the Central Louisiana Technical College system, paid special tribute to local veterans as well as those veterans who are no longer with us. Sheriff Jordan and his deputies have held this special program for a number of years.

This year, there were over 100 people on hand for the program. Guest speaker for the program was Director of Missions for the North Central Baptist Association Brother Craig James.

For the second time in 2 years, the WSHS Tiger cross country team finished in the top 10 at the LHSAA State Meet held on the campus of NSU in Natchitoches. Racing in mud, rain, cold and wind, the worst conditions ever seen at the state meet, the Tigers finished 8 th out of 30 schools represented in the 2A race. They were led by Senior Tyler Hight who finished 11 th overall in field of 160+ runners. Hight was followed in order by junior Cole DeBusk, senior Kaleb Hemphill, senior Edward Teal, junior Jailyn Carter and junior Brandon Florence.

This team had the top 2 finishes in program history after finishing 7 th at last year’s state meet. Congratulations to these young men for an outstanding year and particularly to the 3 seniors: Kaleb Hemphill, Tyler Hight, and Edward Teal.

The Pilot Club of Winnfield, following a tradition for the last four decades, recently sponsored the Miss Winn Parish Pageant. Young ladies from toddlers to teenagers entered 8 categories, and the winner of each category received a crown. In addition, the queen received scholarship monies to assist in her college education.

After all is said and done, it is safe to say this midterm 2018 election had everyone on the edge of there seats. For the Congressional ballots, U. S. Representative, 1 st Congressional court goes to Steve Scalise, with a 71% vote, concluding in 192,526 total votes district wide out of 269,273 votes. For the 2 nd congressional District, Cedric Richmond in a Democratic seat, came in running with a total of 190,066 votes district wide out of 235,854 votesgiving him a 81% vote overall. To follow in 3 rd congressional District is Clay Higgins, taking a Representative seat with 56% votes, coming to a total of 136,871 votes out of 245,935 district wide votes. For the 4 th Congressional District “Mike” Johnson was voted in, holding a representative seat with 64% votes, coming in at a total of 139,307 votes out of 216,842 votes. Holding the 5 th congressional District is Ralph Abraham totaling out with 67% of the votes, resulting in 149,010 votes district wide out of 223,933 votes.

A Winnfield City Police Officer has been suspended without pay pending a Louisiana State Police investigation into an alleged police treatment complaint.

The woman, identified by media outlets as Tanisha White, reportedly suffered broken bones and severe damage to her eye. She reportedly has lost sight in her right eye because of the incident. She was transferred from the Winnfield Medical Center the night of the incident to Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport for treatment.

The incident reportedly took place Monday, November 5. Local officials have not released the name of the officer involved. City of Winnfield officials, including the police department, would not discuss details of the event since it was turned over to State Police to investigate. State Police policy is not to offer comment until their investigation is complete and there was no timetable for when it would be completed.
