LSP Investigate Deputy Involved Shooting in Winn Parish

On May 25, 2022, shortly after 5:00 p.m. the Winn Parish Sheriff ’s Office (WPSO) requested that the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations (LSP BOI) investigate a deputy-involved shooting. “Click It or Ticket” Campaign for 2022

The Winnfield Police Department has joined many agencies in enforcement activities for the National “Click it or Ticket” campaign for Fiscal Year 2022. They are utilizing grant money awarded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to pay officers to work overtime in seat belt enforcement details.

ON-GOING ENFORCEMENT WAVE

May 23 - June 8, 2022 (Click It or Ticket It)

Louisiana law states that all drivers and passengers, regardless of which seat they occupy in a vehicle, must wear a seat belt or be properly restrained in a child safety seat that is properly installed. The fine for not being properly restrained is $50. Fines for improper child safety are $242.50. Besides being the law in Louisiana, wearing your seat belt is the single most important thing a driver or passenger can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. The LHSC supports national programs such as “Click It or Ticket” that raise awareness of the need for proper restraint usage.

Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 to Hold Vacant Chair Ceremony

Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 to Hold Vacant Chair Ceremony

On February 10, 1858, Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 of Winnfield was officially chartered. In spite of the many moves by the Lodge and at least two fires, the original by-laws adopted on that date have been preserved, as well as the minutes of the Lodge.

Through the changes of time, culture, and society, the Lodge has held steadfast to its history. That history includes wars that have been fought and lives that have been impacted by those wars. The Vacant Chair Degree is a ritual that is done by members of the Lodge to offer a stern reminder of the price paid not only by those who died in the service of our country, but also the price paid by their family and friends.

The Vacant Chair Degree was formerly a secret ritual created to honor Master Masons who died serving in the various wars fought since the founding of our country. Recently it was modified to honor all soldiers killed in battle, and is now open to the public.
