The Winn Parish School board elected Al Simmons as the new superintendent of the parish, who takes over the role after Steve Bartlett’s retirement after 21 years of service.

The meeting lasted nearly 5 hours as the school board interviewed two candidates for the vacted role, the other candidate being Jonathan Garrett of Rapides.

Attoreny Jon Guice was in attendance to make sure the interviewing process was held at legal standards for the state and gave his reccomendation on how the interviewing process should go.

His reccomendation was that numbers be put into and envelope for candidates to draw from to give the order in which they would be interviewed, the candidates be ioslated without their phone during the other candidates interview so that they couldn’t hear the questions being asked, that the first part of the interview be open and that the school board go around and each ask one question and to make sure they ask each candidate the same question to keep everything on a leveled playing field, and for an executive session where the school board could ask more delicate questions.
