Louisiana Speaker of the House makes second visit to Winnfield

Louisiana Speaker of the House Clay Schexnayder visited the Rotary Club of Winnfield to talk about one of the top priorties of the Louisiana state Legislature this year, centralized tax.

This makes only the second time a sitting Louisiana Speaker of the House has visited Winnfield.

The centralized sales tax collection issue has been raised in past legislative sessions, but this year it’s been identified by House Speaker Clay Schexnayder as the top issue of the upcoming are currently collected by school boards of each parish, making Louisiana only one of three states in the country — Colorado and Hawaii the others — that does not have a centralized sales tax collection system. How the system would operate will have to be worked out before it goes to the voters. The move to start a centralized tax cam in 2018 in the South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc. which allows the state to charge tax on purchases made from outof-state sellers, even if the seller does not have a physical presence in the taxing state, which overturned a previous ruling set by Quill Corp v. North Dakota, which didn’t allow for states to collect taxes from companies making online sales out of the state.
