Mrs. Sylvia Gilcrease Bland was born in Winnfield on Sunday, November 1, 1928 to John Benjamin and Lillian Bertrice Chambers Gilcrease Sr. passed on Sunday, November 1, 2020 her 92nd birthday and 73rd anniversary to her husband, Lee Osban Bland, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded by six brothers Charles, James, Fred, Blanchard, Donnie and Benny Gilcrease.

Momma, Mamaw, Nanny, Great Nanny, Sister, Lena and friend are some of the names she was known by. Lunch lady was also one of her names as she had worked for many years and retired from the school food services where she probably fed most of the kids growing up from the 1960s thru the 1990s at Westside, Career Center and Winnfield Middle School.

To know her was to be loved, to be taken care of, maybe sewed your clothes for some of us - she may have fed you, she probably told you what to do and then how to do it, and she loved her family beyond measure.

Sylvia is survived by her children Pat Howell of Stonewall, Donna Bland of Winnfield, and Becky Jeffress (Chuck); five grandchildren: Larry Howell (Kristi), Chris Cotton, Ashley Dupuy (Jude), Charles Jeffress and Loren Jeffress; great grandchildren: Dustyn Howell (Ashley), Lindlay Howell, Cody Howell, Lee Dupuy, Landry Dupuy, Luke Dupuy, Levi Overton, Taylor Branum, Macie Branum, Lily Anne Jeffress, Alexcia Jeffress and Jansen Jeffress; great-great grandchildren: Brantly and Garrett Howell and Braylee Jackson; one sister Willie Frazier (Jackie); two sisters in law: Nelda Gilcrease and Margie Gilcrease.

Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m., Garden of Memories Cemetery on Tuesday, November 3rd. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Serving as pallbearers were Larry Dustyn and Cody Howell, Chris Cotton, Jude Dupuy and Mitch Hyman. Honorary pallbearers were Justin Cotton, Lee Landry, Luke Dupuy, Brantly and Garrett Howell, Chuck Jeffress, Mike and Harvey Turner.
