Winn Parish Police Jury vs. Jacque Derr has motion for new trial

The case of Judge Jacque Derr vs. Winn Parish Police Jury was settled last week, but it’s still not quite over, as District Attorney Christopher Nevils, legal counsel to the police jury, moved for a new trial after Derr sent a letter to the police jury asking for $113,465.81 be paid to the court, in addition to the $30,201.57 settlement that was reached on Sept. 24.

Derr request the money after discovering that a portion of the 2 percent bond fees that should have been deposited to the Eight Judicial District Court’s fund was deposited into the police jury’s general fund.

“The District Attorney, Office of Public Defender, and Sheriff have all received their portion,” The letter from Derr said. “The Eight Judicial District Court has not.”
