Allen Speaks at Recent Rotary Meeting

Jay Hinckley and Kathy Allen

Through the years, many Winn residents may have sold a home or a property. Whether it was their own home as they moved on to a new residence or a camp or the home of a parent as they’ve handled the estate, they may have wondered what steps they should take, what expenses they ought to make to help get the best price for that property.

Rotarian Jay Hinckley had program responsibilities for the January 23 meeting of the Rotary Club of Winnfield and invited Jonesboro realtor Kathy Allen to speak about things a seller ought to do to get the best sale price in the shortest time. Are there items on a must-do checklist? Are there things that some sellers spend money on only to find that it does not benefit the sale? Should they sell the property “asis” or should they seek a higher price by providing an allowance for certain items that need attention?

Allen began her presentation by explaining to Rotarians that whether a homeowner goes through a realtor or decides to take the “For Sale by Owner” route, there is a list of disclosures that are government-mandated and must be presented to a prospective buyer before any firm offer is made.
