Great Day for Youth Fishing on the Winn Ranger District!

The 15thAnnual Youth Fishing Derby was held onJune 3rd by the Winn Ranger District of the Kisatchie National Forest, the Winnfield Bass Club, Sheriff Cranford Jordan and the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office. There was great participation of 112 youth ages 2-12 in the event, along with parents and others.Over 300 people attended the fishing derby which was heldat the Bombing Range Pond in Winn Parish.

The purpose of the event was to provide a fun, exciting, and educational experience for the youth in the area and an opportunity to experience their National Forests. District Ranger Greg Cohrs thanks all of the parents and guardians who brought their children to the event on Saturday morning. The pond was stocked with a thousand pounds of nice sized cat fish for the event. The fishing was a little slow in the beginning, but picked-up and a number of nice fish were caught.
