26 Winn Families Impacted by April Flooding

On April 2nd and 3rd of 2017, much of Louisiana was impacted by severe storms that brought heavy rains, wind, and even tornado activity. Winn Parish, like many other areas of Louisiana, received the enormous and quick rainfall. It is estimated that approximately 6 inches of rain fell on Winnfield in just a matter of hours.

As a result of the flooding, there have been 26 families identified that were severely impacted by the flood waters, with some homes receiving as much as 48 inches of water in them. Emergency personnel conducted evacuations and rescues in some areas and area streets were left damaged. Soil was washed out in areas, leaving behind sinkholes and what residents in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Street area are calling a danger.
