Rotary Hears About New Airlift Operation at WPMC

The recent sound of helicopters in the skies over Winnfield is evidence that the helipad at Winn Parish Medical Center is once again in full use.

Hospital CEO Bryan Bogle on April 26 told the members of the Rotary Club of Winnfield that AirMedCare opened an airlift operation here on Feb. 14. He invited several representatives of the company to explain how this higher level of care can benefit individuals and the community as a whole. Reducing the time it takes for patients to receive definitive care for any medical emergency can save lives.

Paige Keen, program director, discussed operations. The Shreveport-based company was established in 1993. It is an alliance among providers that creates America’s largest air ambulance membership network. That network currently boasts 260 aircraft bases covering 32 states. Negotiations are under way that should soon expand the coverage to 42 states. Their new aircraft, the Bell 407, arrived here May 1 and carries a nurse and paramedic with the patient.
