State Senator Jay Luneau speaks to Kiwanis Club

State Senator Jay Luneau spoke to the Kiwanis Club Monday, March 27, 2017.Luneau is a second term senator representing District 29,which includes part of Winn Parish. He began by saying that it was probably not a surprise to anyone there that the state is broke.

Luneau said he is helped by getting feedback from the people he represents. He also said that the state house of representatives is like Washington and they vote along party lines while the state senate is more bipartisan.

In talking about the problems the state faces with the budget Luneau said he is opposed to making the penny tax permanent. We already have the highest sales tax in the nation without the temporary penny that was added. A lot of people complain about the property tax but Louisiana has the 3rdlowest property tax in the nation.
