NSU Names Student Center For Jimmy D. Long, Sr.
On Thursday, March 9, 2017, Northwestern State University will dedicate the Jimmy D. Long, Sr. Student Services Center. The ceremony, honoring the memory of the Winn Parish native, will begin at 11:00 a.m. The 34,451 square foot facility is on the former site of West Caspari Hall and was completed in 2012. The $8.5 million Student Services Center Student Services Center was the first state-funded new building constructed on the campus in more than 30 years.
Northwestern State Acting President Dr. Chris Maggio said, “Jimmy Long was a giant in education in Louisiana. Countless thousands of students benefitted from his leadership on educational issues in the Legislature and on the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System. He had a deep passion for helping students and especially those at Northwestern. It is appropriate that this building which was designed to provide services to students is being named in Jimmy Long’s honor.” Long passed away in August 2016.
