Evelyn “Tootsie” Billings

Evelyn “Tootsie” Billings, longtime resident   Winnfield, LA passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours   Sunday, January 8, 2017. She was an active member   First Baptist Church   Winnfield for over 71 years where she taught Sunday School and was an active member   Keenagers. For the past 3 years, she had been a resident at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Winnfield. She was born in Atlanta, LA to parents Benjamin Franklin Billings and Nancy Ann Raspberry Billings. She was the youngest   10 siblings and was proceded in death by all. Two   her sisters, Annie Mae Billings Sherwood (Skinny) and Minnie Lee Billings Sherwood (Roy) were also longtime residents   Winnfield. She is proceded in death by her parents and all   her siblings. She is also proceded in death by dozens   nieces, nephews and cousins. Tootsie is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Lamaye Sherwood Rice (Rex/deceased)   Winnfield, Ann Sherwood Heath (Richard)   Alexandria, Billie Sherwood   Alexandria (Doug/deceased), Ginger Pearson (Bill)   Alexandria, Keli Sherwood Fredieu (Larry)   Alexandria, Mike Miller (Ginger)   Atlanta, Georgia, Kevin Sherwood (Chris Kirby)   Los Angeles, CA, Billy Ed Billings (Julie) and Cindy Billings Babb (Billy)   Glenmora and Richard Billings (Linda)   Forest Hill. Tootsie attended Louisiana State Normal College (now known as Northwestern University) and then served as Librarian for Winn Parish for 40 years, starting in 1939 as part   the National Youth Administration. She was counted as a friend by scores   people in and around the Winnfield area, many   whom visited her frequently visited her at Autumn Leaves. She was also cared for with great affection by many   the staff at Autumn Leaves. Tootsie could light up a room with her wonderful sense   humor and quick wit. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with over 100 friends and family in attendance. During that celebration, Ms. Billings received a congratulatory proclamation from the State   Louisiana and Senator Jim Fannin on reaching that milestone. Services for Ms. Billings were held at Southern Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, with the Reverend Dr. Calvin Phelps  ficiating. Pallbearers for the service were Craig Rice, Steve Miller, Randle Pearson, Dawson Howie, Joe Heath, Bobby Guin and Don Causey. Honorary Pallbearers were the Deacons   First Baptist Church.
